xTool RA2 Pro Rotary Attachment: features, specs and who it suits

The xTool RA2 Pro is a 4-in-1 rotary attachment for laser engravers, covering tumblers, wine glasses, rings and spheres. Here is how it works and what it fits.

The xTool RA2 Pro is a rotary attachment for laser engravers. A flat-bed laser can only mark a flat surface, so a tumbler, bottle or ring needs to be turned under the beam as it is engraved. The RA2 Pro does that turning, and xTool describes it as a 4-in-1 design that covers a wide range of round objects.

What a rotary attachment does

A rotary attachment replaces the flat work surface with a motorised mechanism that spins the object. The laser engraver keeps its normal head position while the object rotates, so the design wraps around the surface. This is how text and artwork are put on mugs, drinking glasses, bottles and cans. The attachment is controlled by the engraver's software, which treats the rotation as an extra axis.

Four modules in one

xTool lists four parts: a roller rotary, a chuck rotary, a sphere-engraving module and a ring-engraving stud. They suit different shapes:

  • Roller rotary: the object rests on rollers and turns with them. This is the usual approach for straight-sided items such as tumblers, wine glasses and cans.
  • Chuck rotary: a jaw chuck with a soft pad grips the object. Gripping suits long or irregular cylinders, and xTool lists goblets, wine bottles, baseball bats and mugs with handles.
  • Sphere module: holds balls and similar round items.
  • Ring stud: holds a finger ring for engraving around the band.

xTool says the adjustable Z-axis and the chuck module are additions compared with simpler roller-only attachments.

Speed and precision

xTool rates the maximum vector engraving speed at 360°/s. The module uses a stepper motor with a minimum angle of 0.45°. In general, a smaller step angle means finer control over where the object stops and starts, which helps keep lines crisp around a curve. Real results also depend on how well the object is seated, its diameter and the laser settings.

Compatibility and software

The listing names the xTool S1, F1, F1 Ultra, P2, D1 Pro and M1 Ultra, and says it also works with most other laser engravers on the market. Software support listed includes Laserbox Basic, LaserGRBL and LightBurn. The module is pre-assembled and modular, with height and chuck diameter adjustments. It is made of anodized aluminium alloy with a corrosion-proof coating.

The listing carries an important note: for the xTool P2, S1, D1 Pro and F1, a riser must be prepared separately. The riser lifts the engraver to make room for the rotary attachment. The listed size is 7.4 x 3.7 x 18.0 inches (about 19 x 9 x 46 cm).

Who it suits

It suits people who already own a compatible laser engraver and want to personalise drinkware, sports gear, small gifts or jewellery. Makers who sell custom tumblers or engraved glasses get the most out of the roller and chuck options. It is an accessory only, so it needs a laser engraver to work.

What to check before you buy

  • Your engraver: confirm that your exact model is on the compatibility list, or that it supports a rotary connection.
  • Riser: if you use an xTool S1, F1, P2, D1 Pro or M1, check whether the riser is included or sold separately.
  • Object size: compare the diameter and length of your items with the module's limits in the manual.
  • Material: laser results vary between glass, coated metal and wood, so check the engraver's own settings guidance.
  • Ventilation and eye protection: follow the engraver's manual for enclosure, extraction and protective eyewear.

The short version

  • A 4-in-1 rotary attachment: roller, chuck, sphere module and ring stud.
  • Rated at up to 360°/s vector engraving speed with a 0.45° minimum step angle.
  • Works with xTool machines and, as xTool states, most other laser engravers.
  • Some xTool models need a separate riser.
  • An accessory for engraving curved items, not a laser on its own.
