The xTool F2 is a portable, enclosed laser engraver that carries two lasers: a 5W infrared (IR) laser for marking metal and a 15W diode laser for cutting and engraving other materials. It arrives assembled and weighs only 4.6 kg, so it suits personal projects, small-batch work and taking personalisation to markets and pop-ups. Here is what the specs mean.

Why two lasers

The 5W IR laser is the one for metal. xTool says it produces deep, dark, vivid colour marking on metal. The 15W diode laser handles 3D embossing and cutting through thicker materials. Together, xTool says they cover more than 300 materials. In general, diode lasers work well on wood, leather, acrylic and similar materials, while infrared lasers mark metals that a diode can't. Both are Class 4: 15,000 mW for the diode and 5,000 mW for the infrared.

Camera and accuracy

A built-in 50MP camera shows the whole workspace on screen. xTool states alignment accuracy of up to 0.1 mm on small pieces, which helps place a design on a ring, card or tag without wasting material. The motion accuracy is given as 0.00199 inch.

Speed and batch work

Speeds reach 6000 mm/s, and xTool says a card engraving takes about 3 seconds. A Slide Extension accessory is listed for coasters and phone cases, to speed up batch processing. The RA3 rotary is another accessory, for curved items. The listing says built-in material presets remove guesswork on settings.

Portable and enclosed

The fully enclosed, leak-proof design is meant to let you work in workshops or shops. A built-in fan and an optional purifier clear fumes. Because the cover helps contain light, it works better in shared spaces than an open-frame laser, but a Class 4 laser still needs care: follow the manual on ventilation, supervision and eye protection. The listing's dimensions are 6.9 x 9.3 inches, with a weight of 10.0 lb.

What is in the box

The listing says the box includes the xTool F2 machine, a base plate and a base material kit.

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists, craft-fair sellers and small businesses doing personalised cards, tags, jewellery, coasters and phone cases. People who need to cut thick sheets or work on large pieces would typically want a larger machine.

What to check before you buy

  • Work area: the machine is compact, so check your largest piece against the manual.
  • Fume extraction: decide whether you need the optional purifier for indoor use.
  • Accessories: the Slide Extension, RA3 rotary and purifier are separate.
  • Materials: confirm the metals and plastics you plan to use are supported, and that none give off hazardous fumes.
  • Software: check computer requirements and file formats.
  • Transport: if you travel to markets, think about power access and bench space.
