The xTool F1 Ultra is an enclosed desktop laser engraver with two laser sources: a 20W fibre (infrared) laser for metals and a 20W diode laser for wood, acrylic, leather and more. It is meant for makers, small shops and on-the-spot personalisation, where one compact machine needs to handle different materials. This page walks through what the specifications mean.
Two lasers, two jobs
Fibre and diode lasers suit different materials. A fibre laser typically marks and engraves metal quickly because metal absorbs its wavelength well. A diode laser is typically better on organic and many non-metal materials. xTool lists the fibre laser for gold, silver, copper, stainless steel, brass and titanium, and the diode laser for wood, acrylic, leather, glass, rubber and fabric. Both are Class 4 lasers with 20,000 mW output. The listing's own note says this is the version with a 16MP camera and a 20W fibre laser that supports 3D embossing.
Engraving depth and cutting
With 20W in both sources, xTool says the F1 Ultra handles multi-level 3D engraving and deep engraving on metal, wood and stone. For cutting, the listing gives these upper limits:
- Diode laser: up to 15 mm wood and 12 mm black acrylic.
- Fibre laser: thin stainless steel (0.3 mm), brass (0.4 mm) and aluminum (0.2 mm).
Actual results depend on the material and settings, so test on offcuts.
Work area and batch production
The working area is 220 x 220 mm, which xTool says expands to 220 x 500 mm with the auto conveyor. The conveyor is sold separately and is not in the box. Paired with the 16MP smart camera, it can recognise shapes on the conveyor and fill patterns on each piece, which xTool calls Auto Streamline Production. With speeds up to 10,000 mm/s, it describes batches finishing in minutes.
Safety and on-the-spot use
xTool describes the machine as suited to customising items in front of customers. The fully enclosed cover filters out strong light, smoke extraction removes fumes, and it has a fire safety alarm and an emergency stop button. A Class 4 laser still demands care, so follow the manual on ventilation, supervision and eye protection.
Software
xTool offers Artimind AI for generating text designs, images and 3D embossing, a community of more than 6,000 design projects, and software it says has 68,000 daily active users. The listing gives the dimensions as 18.0 x 17.0 x 24.0 inches and the weight as 43.9 lb.
Who it suits
It suits jewellery makers, personalised-gift sellers and pop-up stalls that engrave both metal and wood. If you only work with wood and acrylic, a single-source machine would typically cover that.
What to check before you buy
- Conveyor: it is an extra, so check whether you need it for batch work.
- Piece size: the 220 x 220 mm area limits larger items.
- Metals: the fibre laser cuts only thin sheet, so confirm the thickness you need.
- Ventilation: read the manual on fume extraction for the room you will use.
- Weight and space: at 43.9 lb it needs a sturdy bench.
- Computer and software: check system requirements.
