The xTool F1 is a compact laser engraver that carries two lasers in one body: a 10W diode laser for materials such as wood and acrylic, and a 2W infrared laser for marking metal. This version is a bundle that adds a desktop smoke purifier, a slide extension and a rotary extension. It is aimed at makers who want to engrave small items such as tags, cards, jewellery and drinkware.
Two lasers, two jobs
Different laser types suit different materials. A diode laser works well for cutting and engraving organic and plastic materials. An infrared laser can mark bare metal, which diode lasers typically cannot. xTool lists the 10W diode laser as able to cut 10 mm wood and 6 mm acrylic, and the 2W infrared laser as the one for metal materials. The brand says the pairing covers more than 300 materials and also allows tumbler marking and rust removal.
Speed and galvo accuracy
The F1 uses a galvo system, in which small mirrors steer the beam instead of moving the whole laser head. This is why galvo machines can move so quickly. xTool rates the F1 at up to 4000 mm/s and quotes 0.00199 mm motion accuracy. It says that lets the machine engrave complex vector graphics and fine detail in seconds, which suits batches of metal cards, pet tags or flasks.
The bundle extras
- Smoke purifier: xTool says it syncs with the engraving process and has a 99.97% purification rate.
- Slide extension: xTool says it widens the working area up to 4X, which helps with batch work and larger pieces.
- Rotary extension (RA2 Pro): for engraving tumblers, mugs, spheres and rings.
The F1 comes pre-assembled with a fully enclosed cover that xTool says blocks laser light and smoke, with a built-in fan. The machine weighs 4.6 kg (about 10 lb) on its own, and the listing gives 48 lb for the packaged bundle, which is why xTool pitches it for craft fairs and markets.
What this model is not
The listing states plainly that this is not the F1 Ultra: there is no camera and no 20W fibre laser. If you need either, check the Ultra model instead.
Who it suits
It suits small businesses and hobbyists who personalise small items and want a portable machine with an enclosed workspace. Someone who mostly cuts large wood sheets, or needs a camera for alignment, may find the working area and feature set limiting.
What to check before you buy
- Space and power: confirm that your table can take the machine, purifier and extensions, and check the power requirements in the manual.
- Venting: the purifier filters smoke, but filters are consumables, so check how replacements work.
- Materials: laser engraving some plastics and coated materials can release harmful fumes, so use only materials the manufacturer approves.
- Software: check that your computer or phone works with xTool's software.
- Safety: laser products carry class labels and eyewear advice. Read the manual and follow local rules before using it.
