VEVOR 16-Inch Wall Exhaust Fan, 3000 CFM: features, specs and who it suits

A 16-inch wall-mounted exhaust fan with automatic shutters and a temperature and humidity controller: what 3000 CFM and an EC motor mean for attics and sheds.

The VEVOR HA-400ME is a 16-inch exhaust fan that mounts in a wall to push hot, stale air out of an attic, shed or workshop. It moves 3000 CFM, and its controller can speed it up or slow it down on its own as the temperature and humidity change. Automatic shutters close when it's off to keep rain and small debris out.

What 3000 CFM means

CFM stands for cubic feet per minute, the volume of air a fan moves. As a rough example, a 10 x 12 ft shed with an 8 ft ceiling holds 960 cubic feet of air, so at full speed the fan could in theory move that volume about three times a minute. The fan pushes out stale air, floating dirt, heat and smells.

Exhaust fan airflow figures are typically measured with nothing in the way. Screens, louvres, ducting and a shortage of incoming air all reduce the real-world flow, so the actual figure in your space will be lower. An exhaust fan can only push air out as fast as replacement air comes in, so the space needs intake vents or an open window, ideally on the opposite side.

Temperature and humidity control

The controller has temperature and humidity triggers and adjusts the fan across up to 10 speed settings as conditions change. It also has multiple modes, a timer and an alarm.

In an attic, a temperature trigger lets the fan run harder on hot afternoons and ease off when it cools down. In a shed or workshop that tends to get damp, a humidity trigger can step up the fan when the air turns muggy, without anyone remembering to switch it on.

The EC motor

The EC motor runs at 1400 RPM on 98W, with air speeds of up to 9 m/s (about 20 mph). EC stands for electronically commutated: a brushless motor run by built-in electronics. That design is what makes fine speed control possible, and EC motors are typically efficient and smooth-running. VEVOR describes this one as stable and low in noise, and suited to year-round attic ventilation.

All-steel housing and automatic shutters

The housing is all-metal steel, which VEVOR says is rigid, resists bending and handles damp and rain better than plastic. The shutters open when the fan is powered and close when it's off, keeping out rain and small debris. Closed shutters also help keep outside air from blowing back in while the fan isn't running.

Size and installation

The frame measures 18.9 x 18.9 inches (about 48 x 48 cm), and the fan weighs 15 lb (6.8 kg). As a wall-mounted fan, it goes into an opening cut in an exterior wall, with the frame sealed around the edges. Check the manual for the exact opening size, how it connects to power and how it should be fixed in place.

It suits attics that need year-round ventilation, and sheds and workshops that get hot, stuffy or damp.

What to check before you buy

  • Wall and opening: check the opening needed for the 18.9 x 18.9 in frame and what's inside the wall where you'll cut.
  • Intake air: make sure the space has vents or another way for outside air to come in.
  • Fuel-burning appliances: if a furnace, water heater or other fuel-burning appliance is nearby, ask a professional whether a powerful exhaust fan could affect how it vents.
  • Power: check how the fan connects to power and whether the wiring is a job for an electrician where you live.
  • Weight and mounting: at 15 lb, check that the wall framing gives it solid support.
