The VEVOR 10-inch shutter exhaust fan is a wall-mount fan that moves hot, humid or stale air out of enclosed spaces. It is rated at 820 CFM, uses an EC motor and comes with a controller that adjusts speed to temperature and humidity. Here is what those details mean in practice.

What 820 CFM means

CFM stands for cubic feet per minute, the volume of air a fan can move. VEVOR rates this fan at 820 CFM at 1,650 rpm. In general, the larger a space is, the more airflow it needs to change its air at a useful rate. It is worth working out the volume of your room and how often you want the air replaced, then comparing that with the airflow figure.

VEVOR says the fan removes heat, humidity, odour and dust from rooms, buildings and small enclosed work areas.

The EC motor

The fan uses an EC (electronically commutated) motor. In general, EC motors adjust speed efficiently and use less power than basic induction motors at lower speeds. VEVOR lists the fan at 120V/60Hz and 15W, and says the EC motor maximises airflow while keeping noise and power use down. The fully enclosed motor has thermal protection and permanent lubrication, so there is no oiling to maintain.

The controller and its modes

The controller offers temperature and humidity triggers and up to 10 speeds that respond to changes in those readings. VEVOR also lists multiple modes, plus timer and alarm functions. In practice, that means the fan can run slowly when conditions are mild and speed up as the temperature or humidity rises, rather than just switching on and off.

Build and shutter

The frame is powder-coated steel, and the fan blade and shutter are aluminium alloy. The shutter closes when the fan stops, which in general helps keep out drafts, dust and insects. VEVOR says the all-metal build resists weather, liquid and dust, but also notes that the fan is not suitable for outdoor use or long exposure to damp conditions.

Installing it

The fan arrives fully assembled with four bolts, and a 6.2 ft (about 1.9 m) power cord, so it plugs in rather than being hard-wired. It measures 12.8 x 12.8 inches (about 32.5 cm) and is 5.5 inches deep, and weighs 6.2 lb (about 2.8 kg). VEVOR lists garages, workshops, chicken coops, windows, attics and greenhouses as typical places. Follow the manual and local codes on mounting, the wall opening and the power connection.

Who it suits

It suits owners of workshops, garages, small outbuildings or greenhouses who want automatic ventilation without wiring work, and anyone who wants to hold a space within a temperature or humidity range.

What to check before you buy

  • Opening size: measure the wall or frame opening against the 12.8-inch fan body and its bolt pattern.
  • Airflow: compare 820 CFM with the volume of the space.
  • Power: you need an outlet within reach of the 6.2 ft cord, at 120V.
  • Placement: it is for sheltered mounting, not exposed outdoor positions.
  • Make-up air: an exhaust fan needs a way for fresh air to enter the space.
  • Upkeep: check the manual for cleaning the blade and shutter.

The short version

  • A 10-inch wall-mount shutter exhaust fan rated at 820 CFM and 1,650 rpm.
  • EC motor, 120V/60Hz, 15W, with thermal protection.
  • Controller with temperature and humidity triggers, 10 speeds, timer and alarm modes.
  • Steel frame with aluminium blade and shutter; ETL listed.
  • Plug-in, pre-assembled; for sheltered, dry use.
