The VEVOR AMX-FAGAC10 is a wall-mounted 10-inch exhaust fan with built-in shutters and a speed controller. It pushes warm, stale air out of sheds, garages, workshops, greenhouses and attics. When it stops, the shutters close to keep rain and small debris out.

What 900 CFM means

CFM stands for cubic feet per minute, the volume of air the fan can move. VEVOR rates this fan at 900 CFM, which is about 1,530 cubic metres per hour. As a general guide, a space needs a certain number of air changes per hour, so a larger CFM suits a larger room. Published figures are normally measured with little or no resistance, and real airflow drops when the fan works against a restricted inlet, so make sure fresh air can enter the room.

Variable speed control

The fan comes with a controller that gives stepless speed adjustment, which VEVOR describes as anything from a gentle breeze to a powerful blast. Lower speeds typically reduce noise and airflow together, and let you match ventilation to the weather or the task. Check the manual for how to wire the controller and what power limit it has.

The AC motor

The listing gives a 45W AC motor running at 1650 RPM with airflow of up to 7.4 m/s. VEVOR says it runs smoothly and quietly. A low-wattage motor draws little power for the airflow stated, which suits a fan that may run for long periods. No noise level in decibels is given, so consider where the fan will sit and who will be nearby.

Steel build and rain guard

The housing is all-metal steel, which VEVOR says is more rigid than plastic and resists deformation, with the ability to handle damp and rain. The shutters open when the fan is powered and close when it is off. That gives basic protection against rain and small objects entering, though it is not a sealed barrier against cold drafts. Steel can rust if the coating is damaged, so inspect it over time.

Size and weight

The unit measures about 12.8 × 12.8 × 7.1 inches (roughly 32.5 × 32.5 × 18 cm) and weighs 6.7 lb (about 3 kg). It comes in black.

Where it fits

It can be used as a wall exhaust fan in a shed, garage, workshop or greenhouse, and VEVOR also suggests it as an attic fan for year-round ventilation. It is a ventilation fan only: it does not cool air by itself, and it should not be used to extract fumes from fuel-burning appliances. Follow the manual and local electrical codes for wiring and installation, and consider hiring a qualified electrician if you aren't confident.

What to check before you buy

  • Opening size: measure the wall opening against the fan's mounting dimensions.
  • Room volume: compare 900 CFM with the size of the space and your target air changes.
  • Fresh air supply: provide an intake vent or open door so the fan can move air.
  • Power and wiring: check the voltage, plug or hardwiring needs and the controller's power limit.
  • Location: mount it on a structure that can carry its weight and away from combustion appliance flues.
  • Upkeep: dust builds up on blades and shutters, so plan to clean them.
  • Noise: consider how close the fan will be to living spaces.

The short version

  • A 10-inch wall-mounted steel shutter exhaust fan rated at 900 CFM.
  • Stepless variable speed via the included controller.
  • 45W AC motor at 1650 RPM, with shutters that close when the fan is off.
  • About 6.7 lb; suited to sheds, garages, workshops, greenhouses and attics.
  • Install following the manual and local electrical codes.
