The VEVOR A7 is a desktop laser engraver and cutter with a 5W blue-light laser. It is built for hobbyists, makers and small workshops who want to mark or cut materials such as wood, acrylic, leather and paper from a computer design. Here is what its main specs mean and what to think about before setting one up.
What a 5W blue-light laser can do
VEVOR lists the laser wavelength as 455±5 nm, which is in the blue range, with output of at least 5W. In general, diode lasers of this kind are good at engraving and at cutting thin sheet material, and they work best on materials that absorb blue light well. VEVOR says the machine handles more than 100 types of material, including wood, acrylic, paper, leather, fabric, stainless steel and glass etching.
Treat that list as a guide to marking and engraving rather than a promise of deep cuts in everything. Thicker or more reflective materials typically need several passes, slower speeds or a surface treatment, and clear or very shiny materials can be difficult for any diode laser.
Work area, speed and precision
The effective working area is 16.1 x 15.7 in (41 x 40 cm), large enough for a cutting board, a small sign or several smaller items in one run. VEVOR rates the head speed at up to 10,000 mm/min and quotes transmission accuracy of 0.2 mm/m, using a stepper motor and synchronous belt drive.
The brand describes a compressed laser spot of 0.08 x 0.08 mm. A smaller spot concentrates energy, which generally gives finer detail in engraving and cleaner, narrower cuts. The listed head lifespan is more than 10,000 hours at 80% power.
Software and connection
The A7 connects to a computer by USB, and VEVOR says it works with LightBurn and LaserGRBL. Both let you import artwork, set speed and power per layer, and send the job to the machine. LaserGRBL is typically free to use, while LightBurn is a paid package with a trial. The listing says the software supports iOS, Windows and Linux systems, so check which operating system your own computer runs and confirm current compatibility before relying on it.
Setting it up
The machine uses a modular design with numbered parts and printed instructions, and VEVOR says assembly takes about 20 minutes. An adjustable screw and a focusing block help you set the correct distance between the lens and the material, which matters greatly for clean results. The box also contains safety glasses, a 1 m USB cable with a magnetic ring, three trial wood plates, three trial acrylic plates, wrenches, a brush, a dust-free cloth and cable ties.
Built-in protections
VEVOR lists an emergency stop switch, a UV filter it says blocks 97% of harmful light, and cable management. It states the product complies with CE and FCC regulations and holds FDA and IEC 60825 laser product certifications. As with any laser, follow the manual, wear the supplied eye protection, never leave a running machine unattended and keep flammable items clear of the work area.
Air assist and the work surface
The specification notes that the machine supports air assist but does not include an air pump. Air assist blows a stream of air at the cutting point, which typically reduces flare-ups and residue and can improve cut quality. If you plan to cut thicker wood or acrylic, factor in a separate pump.
What to check before you buy
- Space: the machine measures about 24 x 22.8 x 10.6 in (610 x 580 x 270 mm) and weighs 8.8 lb (about 4 kg), and the work area needs clear room around it.
- Ventilation: laser engraving produces smoke and fumes, so plan for a window, extraction or an enclosure.
- Materials: confirm that what you want to cut is suitable for a 5W diode laser and its thickness.
- Extras: air assist needs a separate pump, and an enclosure is not included.
- Computer: confirm that your operating system and chosen software work together.
- Protection: have a fire extinguisher nearby and use the supplied glasses.
The short version
- The VEVOR A7 is a 5W, 455 nm blue-light laser engraver and cutter with a 16.1 x 15.7 in work area.
- It runs at up to 10,000 mm/min and connects by USB to LightBurn or LaserGRBL.
- It includes an emergency stop, a UV filter and trial material for first tests.
- Air assist is supported, but no pump is included.
- It suits makers who want a modular, self-assembled machine for wood, acrylic and leather projects.
