The VEVOR 8 Quart Hydraulic Power Unit is a self-contained 12V pump, motor and oil tank in one assembly. It supplies pressurised hydraulic oil to a cylinder, so a battery-powered system can raise and lower heavy loads such as a dump trailer bed. It arrives pre-assembled, which keeps installation to the oil, power and plumbing.

What a double-acting power unit does

A hydraulic cylinder can be pushed in one direction by oil pressure, or in both. A single-acting setup uses oil to extend the cylinder and relies on gravity or a spring to bring it back. A double-acting unit, like this one, sends oil alternately to two ports, so the cylinder is driven out and drawn back under power. VEVOR says this distributes force evenly across the equipment it moves.

This matters for jobs where the return stroke needs control, such as tailgates, presses and lifting platforms, rather than just letting a load drop.

Motor, flow and pressure

VEVOR gives these figures:

  • Motor: 12V DC, 1.6 kW
  • Flow rate: up to 0.91 GPM (gallons per minute)
  • Maximum relief pressure: 3,200 PSI, which VEVOR also states as 16-20 MPa
  • Tank: 8 quarts (about 7.6 litres)

Flow rate decides how quickly a cylinder moves, while pressure decides how much force it can produce. For a given cylinder, a higher flow typically means faster lifting. The relief pressure is a ceiling, not a working pressure to aim for, and the pressure you actually reach depends on the load and cylinder size. A built-in safety relief valve opens automatically if that limit is exceeded, which protects the pump and hoses.

Setting it up

The unit comes assembled. VEVOR describes setup as adding hydraulic oil, connecting the power supply and tubing, and starting. It includes an SAE #6 connector, which the brand says suits both metric and American fittings. Check the manual for the right oil type, filling level, wiring and cable gauge for a 12V motor of this size, since a motor drawing this much power typically needs heavy cable and a suitable battery.

Build and sealing

The tank is solid steel and described as rust-proof, with overall sealing designed to cut the risk of oil leaks. The unit measures about 20.1 x 7.3 x 8.3 inches (51 x 18.5 x 21 cm) and weighs 30.3 lb (about 13.7 kg), so it is a fixed-mount component rather than something to carry around.

Where it can be used

VEVOR lists dump trailers and container truck tail plates, hydraulic wood splitters, small presses, lifting platforms, semi-electric push trucks, bucket transporters and similar lifting or stamping tasks. The title also mentions car lifting. Any use that lifts people, vehicles or heavy loads should follow the manual and local rules, and the load should be supported by a proper mechanical stop or stand rather than by hydraulic pressure alone.

Who it suits

It suits owners fitting or replacing the pump on a dump trailer, and builders of small hydraulic machines who have a 12V supply and want a ready-made power pack instead of sourcing a pump, motor and reservoir separately.

What to check before you buy

  • Cylinder match: confirm your cylinders are double-acting, and that their volume and speed suit a 0.91 GPM pump.
  • Pressure limits: make sure cylinders, hoses and fittings are rated for at least the relief pressure.
  • Power supply: check battery capacity and cable size for a 1.6 kW 12V motor, and any duty-cycle limits in the manual.
  • Fittings: confirm the port thread sizes against your hoses and the SAE #6 connector.
  • Mounting space: allow for the unit's size, weight and a way to check the oil level.
  • Upkeep: check the manual for oil type, change intervals and leak checks.

The short version

  • A pre-assembled 12V, 1.6 kW double-acting hydraulic power unit with an 8-quart steel tank.
  • Up to 0.91 GPM flow and a 3,200 PSI (16-20 MPa) maximum relief pressure, with a built-in relief valve.
  • Includes an SAE #6 connector; it is intended for dump trailers, lifts, presses and similar work.
  • Weighs about 30 lb, so it is meant to be mounted in place.
