The LaserPecker 2 (model L2) is a small laser engraver for personal projects. LaserPecker designs it to be set up in seconds and used on a desk, or carried by hand over objects that wouldn't fit in a conventional machine. The Basic Set includes the laser unit and the essentials to start.
How galvo engraving works
Many hobby engravers move the laser head along rails. A galvo system instead steers the beam with small mirrors, which can move much faster. LaserPecker lists an engraving speed of 36,000 mm/min and up to 225,000 mm/min for previewing the frame or graphic. The preview lets you check where the design will land before engraving.
Detail and resolution
The laser spot is compressed to 0.05 x 0.05 mm using a double lens focus, which LaserPecker says allows finer detail. There are three resolution options: 1K, 1.3K and 2K. Finer settings generally take longer, so choose according to the artwork.
Materials it can and can't work on
According to LaserPecker, it can engrave paper, cardboard, wood, leather, coated metal and brushed stainless steel. It can cut wood and paper up to about 0.2 inches thick. It cannot engrave pure or shiny metal, and the brand points buyers who mainly work with metal to the LP3 or LP4 models. Light-coloured or transparent materials reflect the laser, so the brand suggests painting them black first and wiping the paint off afterwards.
Connecting and files
The engraver works with a smartphone or PC and accepts file types including JPG, PNG and G-code. There is no complicated assembly. It also has a handle design that allows hand-held engraving, so you aren't limited by a fixed work area.
Safety features
Laser safety matters. The listing names a protective shield, goggles, overheat protection with shutdown, a password lock, motion detection and a laser indicator, with a 12-month warranty. Always wear the supplied laser safety glasses, work in a ventilated space, keep the beam away from people and pets, and follow the manual. Some materials give off fumes when burned, so check what is safe to engrave.
What's in the set
The Basic Set includes the laser unit, an electric stand, a conical protective cover, an adapter, laser safety glasses, two Type-C cables and an English manual.
Who it suits
It suits crafters, makers and small-run personalisers who want a portable machine for wood, leather, cardboard and paper. It is a poorer fit for bulk production, thick cuts or work mainly on bare metal.
What to check before you buy
- Your materials: compare them with the supported and unsupported lists.
- Metal work: if you mainly engrave metal, consider the models the brand recommends instead.
- Work area: check how large a design the unit covers from its stand.
- Software: confirm your phone or computer works with the app.
- Ventilation and eyewear: plan a safe space and wear the glasses.
- Local rules: check any regulations for laser devices where you live.
