The LaserPecker 1 Pro (model L1 Pro) is a very small laser engraver for personal marking jobs: labels, small decorations and names on wallets, notebooks and phone cases. At 190 g and about 65 x 61 x 53 mm, it fits in the palm of a hand. It is designed for light, small-scale work rather than large engraving projects, as LaserPecker states.
How the laser works
The L1 Pro uses a 405 nm blue-violet laser. LaserPecker lists a 500 mW source, with focused energy it gives as 1,500 mW, and a rated life of more than 10,000 hours. Output can be set from 0 to 100%. A 405 nm wavelength is absorbed well by dark and organic surfaces, which is why this type of laser suits wood and leather but struggles with shiny or clear materials.
The brand quotes a precision of 0.15 mm, which sets how fine the detail can be.
Materials it can and cannot engrave
LaserPecker says the engraver works on paperboard, cardboard, fabric, felt, leather and wood. It says it cannot engrave metal, stone, glass, plastic or reflective materials. Read that list before buying: if your projects involve metal tags or glass, this model is not designed for them.
Working area and app control
The engraving area is up to 4 x 4 inches (about 10 x 10 cm). You connect over Bluetooth 4.0 to the LaserPecker app (iOS 10+ or Android 4.4+), then upload an image, type text or import a G-code file. Supported formats include G-code, BMP and JPG. The brand says to keep the laser distance at 20 cm from the surface, and a tripod and ruler are supplied to help with that.
Power and portability
It runs from USB-C at 5 V and can work from a power bank, so you can use it away from a desk. LaserPecker gives 5 V 2 A in its feature list and 5 V 1 A in the specifications, so check the manual for what your power source needs to supply.
Safety features
A laser can damage eyes and skin, so safety matters. LaserPecker lists protective goggles, a password lock, motion detection, a laser indicator and overheat shut-down. It gives a Class I laser safety classification under IEC 60825-1 when used with the shield, and Class IV when used without it, plus CE, FCC and FDA CDRH registration. Always wear the goggles, keep the laser away from children and pets, and follow the manual. Engraving some materials produces fumes, so work somewhere ventilated.
What's in the box
The listing names the engraver, a Type-C cable, a charger, goggles, a tripod, a ruler and a user manual. The description also mentions an optional support stand with a fume-extraction fan, magnetic protective shields and a case, which appear to be extras in higher bundles, so confirm what your version includes. LaserPecker gives a 12-month warranty.
What to check before you buy
- Materials: confirm your projects use the listed materials, not metal, glass or plastic.
- Size: the area is 4 x 4 inches, so larger designs won't fit.
- Phone: make sure your phone meets the app's operating system requirement.
- Ventilation and eye protection: plan a safe, ventilated workspace and use the goggles.
- Power source: check that your charger or power bank gives the right output.
- Extras: check which accessories, such as the stand and shields, are in your package.
