The ELEGOO PHECDA 10W is a desktop laser engraver and cutter for hobbyists, makers and small workshops. It burns designs into wood, bamboo, kraft paper and similar materials, and ELEGOO also lists stainless steel, aluminum and dark acrylic among the things it can work on. Here is what its features mean in practice.
Power, spot size and speed
The "10W" refers to the laser's output power. ELEGOO states a very small focal spot of 0.06 x 0.06 mm and a top speed of 25,000 mm/min. In general, a smaller spot gives finer detail, and more power lets a laser cut thicker material or work faster. Results always depend on the material, speed and number of passes, and metals are typically marked rather than cut by lasers of this type. Check the manual for suitable settings.
A large work area
The engraving area is 400 x 400 mm (15.75 x 15.75 inches), large enough for sizeable boards or several small pieces at once. The laser head height is adjustable, and risers allow taller objects. ELEGOO states that the largest cylinder the 10W model can engrave is 68.5 mm in diameter; larger ones need another set of risers.
Smoke, fumes and cooling
Engraving produces smoke and fine particles. The PHECDA's laser head has a smoke exhaust filter and two cooling fans, with a removable cover for changing the filter cartridge. The fans run for another minute after a job ends to extend their life. A translucent magnetic plate on the Z-axis doubles as a viewing shield and a smoke collector. Even with a filter, ventilate the room as the manual advises.
Safety features
ELEGOO says the machine pauses and beeps if its sensor detects flames, and does the same if it is moved, tilted or flipped during a job. The magnetic plate filters the laser light, and goggles are supplied. Laser work always calls for eye protection, a fire-aware setup and never leaving a running machine unattended.
Frame and motion
The frame is aluminum alloy. ELEGOO describes quiet POM V-wheels, a 3 + 3 wheel arrangement on the Y axis, a V-groove rail, a high-tension synchronous belt and silent motor drivers, all meant to keep movement smooth and precise. The laser module slides into rails for easy replacement, with a focal positioning bar for setting the focal distance and a detachable window mirror.
Software and connections
You can operate it by phone app over the machine's own Wi-Fi, or send files by USB cable or TF card. It works with LightBurn and LaserGRBL on Windows and Mac, with the app on iOS and Android. Supported file types include SVG, DXF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, BMP and TIF.
Who it suits
It suits people making signs, gifts, coasters, engraved boards and small craft products, as well as those who want to learn digital fabrication at home.
What to check before you buy
- Space: the machine measures about 26.5 x 26 x 7.5 inches, so plan a stable table.
- Materials: confirm the materials you want are suitable, and never engrave materials that give off hazardous fumes.
- Ventilation: plan how smoke will leave the room.
- Software: decide whether you'll use the app, LightBurn or LaserGRBL.
- Upkeep: filters and fans are consumables, so check the replacement guidance.
- Version: the listing is for the basic package; confirm what's included.
