The ELEGOO PHECDA is a desktop laser engraver and cutter with a 10,000mW (10W) output. It is aimed at makers who want to engrave or cut wood, acrylic and similar materials at home or in a workshop, with a work area big enough for sizeable projects.
What 10,000mW means in practice
Laser power is the energy delivered to the material. A higher number generally means faster engraving and the ability to cut thicker material. ELEGOO says the PHECDA concentrates its power into a 0.06 x 0.06 mm focal spot and moves at up to 25,000 mm/min. The brand lists wood, bamboo, kraft paper, stainless steel and aluminum among the materials it can work on. In general, diode lasers of this kind mark or engrave metals rather than cut through them, so read the manual for the settings it recommends for each material.
Work area and height adjustment
The engraving area is 400 x 400 mm (15.75 x 15.75 inches). The laser head is height-adjustable, and adjustable risers let you place taller objects under it. For round items, ELEGOO says the largest cylinder diameter is 68.5 mm, and a larger one needs another set of risers. The packed size is about 26.5 x 26.0 x 7.5 inches.
Air assist and smoke filtering
Air assist blows a stream of air across the cutting point. In general, it clears smoke and debris, reduces flare-ups and gives cleaner edges. The laser head also carries a smoke exhaust filter and dual cooling fans, and the filter cartridge has a detachable cover for removal and replacement. Filters of this type are consumables, and good ventilation is still sensible when you burn materials.
Ways to run it
You can control the machine from a mobile app over its own Wi-Fi network (the phone connects to the machine's network), or send files by USB cable or TF card. It also supports LightBurn and LaserGRBL, two widely used laser control programs. LightBurn is paid software, so check its current terms if you plan to use it.
Eye protection and the shading plate
The laser is Class 4, the highest laser class, and ELEGOO gives an FDA accession number of 2311025-000. A translucent magnetic shading plate shields the eyes from UV light, lets you see the engraving track, and helps collect smoke. Goggles are supplied. Follow the manual and local rules on laser use, eye protection, fire precautions and never leaving it running unattended.
Who it suits
It suits hobbyists and small craft businesses making signs, gifts, wooden boards and labelled items, and people who want to engrave several pieces on one bed.
What to check before you buy
- Materials: confirm that the things you want to mark or cut are suited to a diode laser, and avoid materials the manual warns against.
- Space and ventilation: you need a stable table and a place where fumes can clear.
- Software: decide whether the app, LaserGRBL or LightBurn will suit your workflow.
- Object sizes: check the 400 x 400 mm bed and the 68.5 mm cylinder limit against your projects.
- Upkeep: plan for replacement filters and for cleaning the lens.
- Package: the listing mentions a "Package 2" configuration, so confirm what is included.
