The DEWENWILS DL-610 is a retractable extension cord reel with six grounded outlets built into the end of the cord. It hangs from a ceiling or wall and is aimed at garages, workshops and other work areas where several tools need power in one spot without a tangle of loose cords.
The cord and its jacket
The reel carries a 14/3C SJTOW cord with an orange jacket. The 14 is the wire gauge and the 3 refers to three conductors, including the ground. SJTOW is a common North American designation for a flexible jacketed cord. DEWENWILS says the jacket does not break after repeated bending, stays flexible at low temperatures, and resists UV light, ozone, water, oil and acid, which suits a typical garage.
The brand also notes the reel is for indoor or dry-location use only. Weather-resistant material does not make the whole reel suitable for rain.
Twist-lock stopper and rewind
An auto-guided rewind mechanism pulls the cord back in without letting it knot. The twist-lock stopper sets the length: you rotate it by hand to secure the cord where you want it. DEWENWILS presents this as an upgrade over simpler lock systems. When you are done, release the lock and the cord winds back.
Six outlets and a switch
The tail end is a polygon-shaped block with six grounded outlets, so it can power several tools, chargers or lights at once. It has a push-button switch that turns the outlets on and off in one press, which is handy when the unit hangs overhead and you want to cut power without unplugging each item.
13A breaker
A built-in 13A circuit breaker cuts power if the current goes over 13A, and a reset button restores it. The listing says the reel is ETL listed. Even with a breaker, you should keep the total load within the reel's limit and the capacity of the circuit it plugs into.
Mounting and size
The included swivel bracket allows 180° of movement, so the cord can be pulled in different directions. It can be fixed to a wall, ceiling or rafters. The unit measures about 6.3 x 12.6 x 14.6 inches and weighs 13.0 lb (about 5.9 kg), so choose a solid surface and follow the instructions for fixing it.
Who it suits
It suits home workshops, garages and small business work areas with several corded tools or chargers close together. The overhead mount keeps the cord and outlets off the floor, which also helps keep walkways clear.
What to check before you buy
- Cord length: the listing does not state it in feet; confirm the length before ordering.
- Load: add up the current draw of everything you will plug in, and stay within the 13A limit.
- Mounting: confirm solid framing for a 13 lb unit with a pulled cord.
- Space: allow room for the 180° swivel and the outlet block.
- Location: the brand says indoor or dry places only.
- Codes and manual: follow local electrical codes and the manual for installation, use and reset.
