The DEWENWILS DL-610 is a retractable extension cord reel with 50 feet of cord. It mounts to a wall or ceiling and winds the cord back on its own, so a garage or workshop does not end up with cords across the floor. At the end of the cord is a triple outlet with an indicator light.

Cord gauge and limits

The cord is 14 AWG with three conductors, listed as 14/3. DEWENWILS rates the reel at 13 amps, 125 volts and 1,625 watts. A lower AWG number means a thicker wire, and thicker wire handles more current over a given length, so a 50-foot run is rated a little lower than a shorter, heavier one would be. In general, long cords are best used fully unwound under heavy loads, since wound-up cord can build up heat. The manual covers this.

The listing says the cord has 4.5 feet of lead-in cord, which is the short fixed section that goes to the wall socket. Its length is separate from the 50 feet of reel cord.

SJTOW cord

The cord is a PVC type called SJTOW. DEWENWILS says it is tangle-free, resistant to UV light, ozone, water, oil and acid, and stays flexible in cold weather. The listing is explicit that the reel is for indoor or dry-location use only, so a garage, basement or covered workshop is the intended setting rather than an open yard.

Auto-retract and locking

An auto-guide rewind mechanism is meant to avoid kinks and tangles as the cord retracts quickly and smoothly. A ratchet system locks the cord at any length you pull out, and an adjustable stopper sets where it stops. Guide the cord back by hand rather than letting it snap in, which is kinder to the reel.

Circuit breaker

The built-in 13A breaker cuts power when the combined current of connected devices goes above 13A. After it trips, you press the reset button to carry on. The listing says the reel is certified to UL. The breaker is a protection device, not permission to exceed the limit: keep the total load of what you plug in below 1,625W.

Mounting

A 180° swivel bracket allows the cord to be pulled from several directions. The listing describes it as a separate bracket, suitable for wall or ceiling mounting. Fix it to solid framing and check the manual for clearance and hardware. The listing weight is 13 lb (about 5.9 kg), which is a lot to hang overhead, so a solid fixing matters. (The listed dimensions appear to be placeholder values, so measure the reel itself against your space.)

Who it suits

It suits home garages, workshops, craft rooms and hobby spaces where tools and lamps are used at a fixed bench or bay. It is also useful where the nearest outlet is far from the work area.

What to check before you buy

  • Total load: keep the combined wattage of your tools under 1,625W (13A).
  • Dry locations: it is for indoor or dry places only.
  • Reach: 50 feet of cord, plus the lead-in cord; measure from the outlet.
  • Mounting: confirm you can fix it into a stud, joist or rafter and that the bracket works for your layout.
  • Weight: at about 13 lb, plan the fixing to carry it.
  • Heavy tools: check the amperage of any large tool against the 13A limit.
