The Creality Falcon2 22W is a desktop diode laser that engraves and cuts materials such as wood, acrylic, leather and thin metal sheet. It arrives pre-assembled and includes an integrated air assist, so it suits makers and small craft projects. Here is what its specs mean and what to check before using a laser at home.

What 22W of laser power means

Creality says the Falcon2 compresses four 6W laser diodes into a single spot using FAC (fast-axis collimation) spot compression, giving a 22W output. In general, more optical power lets a laser cut thicker material in fewer passes or engrave faster. Creality lists one-pass cutting of 15mm wood, 10mm acrylic and 0.05mm stainless steel sheet. Results vary with material, density and settings, so test on scrap first.

Speed

The maximum processing speed is 25,000mm/min, which Creality describes as about twice the engraving speed of its earlier model. Speed and power are set together: faster passes need more power to mark the same depth.

Integrated air assist

Air assist blows a stream of air at the cutting point to clear smoke and protect the lens, which typically gives cleaner edges and reduces flaring. On the Falcon2 you can adjust the airflow steplessly by a knob, or let LightBurn software adjust it automatically.

Safety features

Creality lists five protections: a bidirectional limit switch that stops the head and sounds a buzzer if it reaches the boundary; an active stop if the machine is tilted, flipped or dropped; a security lock; an emergency stop button; and a laser protective cover of coloured filter glass. It also lists three monitoring systems for airflow, lens and flame, with a red flashing indicator, an alarm and an immediate stop if a flame is detected. Lasers can still injure eyes and start fires. Follow the manual, wear suitable eye protection, never leave it running unattended and follow local rules.

Colour marking on stainless steel

Creality says the beam can heat stainless steel so the surface reacts and produces many colours, as an engraving effect.

Software and size

It works with Windows and macOS, and with LaserGRBL and LightBurn software. The listing gives dimensions of 26.2 x 22.2 x 6.8 inches and a weight of 17.6 lb (about 8 kg).

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists, makers and small craft businesses making signs, engraved gifts, leather goods and acrylic parts, and people who want a pre-assembled machine.

What to check before you buy

  • Workspace: you need a ventilated area, with the smoke and fumes vented outdoors.
  • Materials: only use materials that are safe to laser, as some release toxic fumes.
  • Fire safety: keep an extinguisher nearby and never leave it running.
  • Eye protection: wear appropriate laser goggles.
  • Software: decide between LaserGRBL and LightBurn and check your computer's compatibility.
  • Rules: check local regulations for laser equipment.
