The Creality Falcon 2 40W is a desktop laser engraver and cutter for makers working with wood, acrylic, leather and, for marking, metal. It arrives assembled, has built-in air assist and is rated at 40,000 mW optical output. This page explains the main specs and what to confirm before choosing a laser.

Power and cutting claims

Creality says the 40W laser can cut through 20 mm wood, 30 mm black acrylic and a 0.15 mm stainless steel sheet in a single pass, with engraving speeds up to 25,000 mm/min. These are the brand's figures, and results depend on material, focus and settings. Wattage is a main factor in how thick a material a laser can cut and how fast it can work.

For metals, Creality says the heat causes a physical reaction on the surface, producing coloured marks. This is marking, not cutting through metal.

Laser spot size

The spot is 0.06 x 0.08 mm, with what Creality calls spot compression technology. A smaller spot generally means finer detail and narrower lines, and it concentrates energy for better cutting. Creality lists engraving on metal, stainless steel, ceramics and glass among the possibilities.

Air assist

A stream of air at the cut point clears smoke and helps limit flare-ups and charring. The Falcon 2 includes it: you connect the air pipe and adjust it with a knob. Creality also supplies extra riser stands, which raise the machine for larger work in more settings.

Safety systems

This is a Class 4 laser, the highest class for lasers, which needs real care: use appropriate laser safety eyewear, never leave it unattended and ensure good ventilation. Creality lists triple monitoring systems and five safety protections. If it detects a flame, or if it is tilted, flipped or dropped during a job, the machine stops and sounds a buzzer. Follow the manual and any local rules.

Software and offline use

You can insert a TF card and engrave without a computer connected. It works with LaserGRBL (free), LightBurn (paid) and Creality's own Falcon Design Space (free).

Size

It measures 28.5 x 24.6 x 6.0 inches (about 72 x 62 x 15 cm) and weighs 22.0 lb (about 10 kg). Creality lists lifetime technical support and an 18-month warranty.

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists, crafters and small workshops who make signs, gifts, models and custom parts, and who are ready to learn laser settings and safety routines.

What to check before you buy

  • Workspace and ventilation: plan for extraction or an open window, since cutting produces smoke.
  • Eye protection: get eyewear rated for the laser's wavelength.
  • Materials: some plastics release harmful fumes when cut. Check what is suitable.
  • Software: decide between the free options and a paid package.
  • Work area: confirm the engraving area suits your projects.
  • Enclosure and fire safety: keep a clear area and a plan for fire.

The short version

  • A 40W (40,000 mW) Class 4 diode laser engraver and cutter.
  • 0.06 x 0.08 mm spot; Creality quotes cuts up to 20 mm wood in a single pass.
  • Integrated air assist and flame, tilt and drop detection.
  • Offline TF card use; works with LaserGRBL, LightBurn and Falcon Design Space.
  • Safety eyewear and ventilation are essential.
