The Soundcore AeroClip (model A3388) is a pair of clip-on earbuds from Anker's Soundcore line. Instead of sitting inside the ear canal, they clip onto the outer ear and leave the canal open. That suits people who dislike the pressure of in-ear tips or who want to keep hearing what's around them while they listen.

What "open-ear" means

Traditional earbuds seal the ear canal. Open-ear designs, including clip-on and ring styles, rest outside it and let sound travel to the ear while ambient noise still gets in. In general, that means you stay aware of traffic, announcements or a conversation, and it also means sound leaks more than with sealed earbuds and bass is usually lighter. Soundcore says the AeroClip is designed to relieve in-ear discomfort so you can listen without pressure.

Sound: 12mm drivers and virtual bass

Each earbud has a 12mm titanium-coated driver. A larger driver typically moves more air, which helps with bass, and the coating is meant to keep the sound clear. Soundcore also uses virtual bass processing to enrich the lows, which is a common way for open designs to make up for the lack of a seal.

The listing describes the audio as Hi-Res. This usually refers to support for high-resolution audio formats, and what you hear depends on your source files, your phone and the app settings. Soundcore also advises updating its app to the latest version for the best listening experience.

Calls with four microphones

For calls, there are four beamforming microphones, wind-blocking meshes and AI processing. Beamforming means the microphones focus on your voice and reduce sound from other directions. Soundcore says this keeps calls clear even on a busy street, although wind and heavy traffic always challenge any small microphone.

Fit and flexibility

The open-ring design is described as feather-light and flexible. Soundcore says it endures 20,000 bends and stays secure for all-day wear. The earbuds come in three colour options. Fit varies with ear shape, so how they feel will differ from person to person, and glasses or earrings can change how a clip-on design sits.

Size and weight

The charging case package is listed at about 4.3 x 4.3 x 1.5 inches (11 x 11 x 4 cm), with a weight of 0.4 lb (about 180 g).

Who it suits

Open-ear earbuds suit people who walk, cycle or work outdoors and want to stay aware of their surroundings, people who find in-ear tips uncomfortable, and anyone who takes a lot of calls. They are less suited to noisy trains or planes, where a sealed design with noise cancelling usually works better, and to quiet shared spaces where sound leakage might bother others.

What to check before you buy

  • Fit: check how a clip-on design sits with your ear shape, glasses and hairstyle.
  • Phone compatibility: confirm the earbuds work with your phone's Bluetooth and app support.
  • Bass expectations: open-ear designs sound different from sealed earbuds.
  • Outdoor use: check the manual for any water- or sweat-resistance details before exercising in them.
  • Battery and case: look at the battery life and charging details in the manual.
  • Traffic: stay alert to your surroundings and follow local rules if you listen while cycling or driving.
