The Baseus Inspire XC1 is a pair of wireless clip-on earbuds that sit on the outside of the ear rather than in the canal. Open-ear designs let you hear your surroundings while music or calls play, which many people like for walking, cycling and workouts. Baseus tunes the sound with Bose and adds a dual-driver system and a four-microphone array for calls.

How open-ear earbuds differ

Standard earbuds seal the ear canal. Clip-on earbuds like the XC1 hold onto the ear with a flexible joint and aim sound toward the ear opening. The trade-off is typically less bass isolation and more sound leakage at high volume, in exchange for awareness of traffic, colleagues and announcements. Baseus describes a curved, adaptive fit with soft liquid silicone and "zero-sense" air cushions, and says the ring joints were tested to 10,000 bends.

The sound system

Baseus says the earbuds feature "Sound by Bose" tuning, refined through hundreds of acoustic tests. Inside is a hybrid two-way engine: a dynamic woofer for bass and a Knowles balanced armature tweeter for treble, joined by digital processing and active crossovers. A crossover simply splits the music so each driver handles the range it suits best.

Baseus adds its SuperBass 3.0 and SuperBalance 3.0 tuning, Dolby spatial audio, and support for Hi-Res Wireless and the LDAC codec. A codec is the method used to compress audio over Bluetooth. LDAC carries more detail than the basic default, but it needs a source device that supports it.

Calls

Four microphones with AI voice pickup and wind-noise reduction are designed to keep your voice clear in traffic, crowds or while cycling at speeds up to 5m/s, according to Baseus. Open-ear designs are well suited to calls because you hear your own voice naturally.

Battery life

Baseus rates playback at up to 8 hours per charge, or 40 hours with the charging case. A quick 10-minute charge is said to give 2.5 hours of playback. Actual time varies with volume and codec.

Weather protection

The earbuds are certified to IP66. The first digit, 6, means dust-tight, and the second, 6, means protection against powerful water jets. In practice that covers sweat, rain and splashes, though it doesn't cover swimming. Dry them and the case contacts before charging.

Who it suits

They suit runners, cyclists, commuters and desk workers who want to stay aware of what's around them, and people who find in-ear tips uncomfortable. If you want strong isolation on a noisy train or flight, a sealed design is typically the better choice.

What to check before you buy

  • Ear fit: clip-on shapes work differently from person to person, so think about glasses, hair and ear size.
  • Codec support: LDAC and Hi-Res Wireless need a compatible phone or player.
  • Environment: open-ear sound is more easily masked by loud surroundings.
  • Leakage: at high volume people nearby may hear it.
  • Care: wipe the earbuds and charging contacts as the manual describes.
  • Controls and app: check which functions the earbuds offer on your device.
