The Baseus Bowie MC1 Pro are open-ear earbuds that clip on to the outside of the ear instead of sitting in the ear canal. Each weighs about 5 g, they carry IP67 protection and they connect over Bluetooth 6.0. This page covers what the design means in daily use and what to check before choosing them.

What open-ear means

Open-ear earbuds rest outside the ear canal, so you hear the music and the surroundings together. People often choose them for walking, cycling or working where awareness of traffic, colleagues or announcements matters. The trade-off is that there is no seal, so bass is typically lighter than with in-ear designs, and in noisy places you may turn the volume up. Sound also escapes a little more, which matters in quiet rooms.

Fit and comfort

Baseus describes ultra-soft CurveFit cushions, anti-drop wingtips and a flexible TPU U-ring with memory titanium wire, tested for more than 8,000 bends. At 5 g each, they are designed to be light enough for long wear with little pressure on the ear. Ear shapes vary, so fit is personal, and clip designs can sit differently with glasses or thick hair.

Sound and codecs

Baseus lists a Tri-Magnet Dynamic Driver with a 3-layer composite diaphragm, the SuperBass 2.0 algorithm and a HiFi 4 acoustic architecture. They are Hi-Res Wireless certified and support LDAC, which can send about three times the data of the standard SBC codec. LDAC only works when your phone or player supports it. Otherwise the earbuds fall back to a more common codec.

Bluetooth 6.0 and dual-device connection

Bluetooth 6.0 is the newer standard, aimed at stable, low-latency connections. Baseus Smart Connect (BSC) technology lets the earbuds pair with two devices, so you can switch between, say, a phone and a laptop. The listing also mentions DNN 4-mic AI technology for clearer calls.

IP67 protection

IP67 means dust-tight and able to withstand temporary immersion in water, in general terms. Baseus describes the earbuds as resistant to dust, water, sweat, weather and splashes, which suits workouts and commutes. The charging case is a separate matter, so check the manual for what the IP67 claim covers.

Battery and controls

Baseus quotes up to 9 hours per charge with Bass Boost off, and 40 hours in total with the case. A 10-minute charge gives about 2 hours of listening. Controls use physical buttons, which Baseus says helps prevent accidental touches, and the Baseus app can customise them.

Who they suit

They suit people who want to stay aware of their surroundings, such as walkers, runners, cyclists and office workers, and anyone who finds in-ear tips uncomfortable. If you want the strongest isolation or deepest bass, in-ear designs usually do better.

What to check before you buy

  • Fit: think about glasses, hats and earrings, and your ear shape.
  • Environment: open-ear designs let sound in and out, so consider quiet offices and noisy streets.
  • Device support: LDAC and the app need compatible devices.
  • Cycling and running: local rules on wearing headphones on the road may apply.
  • Case and charging: check the charging method in the box.
  • Bass expectations: open-ear sound differs from sealed in-ear sound.
