Baseus Bowie MF1 Open-Ear Headphones: features, specs and who they suit

The Baseus Bowie MF1 are open-ear Bluetooth 5.4 headphones with LDAC, 16mm drivers, four microphones and IPX4 splash resistance. Here is what the specs mean.

The Baseus Bowie MF1 are wireless open-ear headphones. Instead of sealing the ear canal like earbuds, they rest on ear hooks and send sound toward the ear from outside, so you can still hear what is going on around you. This page explains what the listed specs mean and who this design suits.

What "open-ear" means in practice

Open-ear headphones leave the ear canal uncovered. Baseus says this lets you keep hearing things like public transit announcements or the person talking to you while music plays. Because nothing blocks outside sound, they typically don't isolate you from noise the way in-ear or noise-cancelling models do. In loud places you may turn the volume up, and people close by can sometimes hear a little of what you are playing.

Fit and comfort

The MF1 use soft silicone ear hooks and cushions. Baseus says a slim 0.6mm memory wire inside the hook adapts to different ear shapes and keeps the headphones secure during movement. Open-ear designs put less pressure inside the ear, which many people find easier to wear for long stretches. Fit is personal, so ear shape and glasses can make a difference.

Sound: LDAC, drivers and bass

Each side has a 16mm dynamic driver. Baseus pairs it with a bass-enhancement algorithm, since open-ear designs typically give up some low-frequency punch compared with sealed ones.

The headphones support the LDAC codec, which Baseus markets as Hi-Res wireless audio. LDAC can carry more audio data than the basic SBC codec, but it only works when your phone or player also supports it, and the codec in use can vary by device. Without LDAC support on the source, the headphones fall back to a standard codec.

Battery life and charging

Baseus quotes up to 60 hours of listening with the charging case, or 12 hours on a single charge. A 10-minute quick charge is said to add 2.5 hours of playback. Battery figures are usually measured under set conditions, and volume level and codec choice often change real-world results.

Calls and connectivity

Four microphones and an AI noise-filtering algorithm handle calls, along with wind noise reduction for outdoor use. The headphones use Bluetooth 5.4 and what Baseus calls Dual-Channel Low Latency (DCLL) technology for a steadier, lower-lag connection. Baseus Smart-Connect (BSC) lets you switch between two devices, for example a phone and a laptop, without re-pairing each time.

Water resistance

The MF1 are IPX4 rated, which generally means they handle splashes from any direction, such as sweat or light rain. IPX4 does not cover submersion or heavy water exposure, so they are not for swimming or showers.

Who they suit

They suit people who want to stay aware of their surroundings: walkers and runners, commuters, and office workers who want to hear colleagues. They are less suited to anyone who wants to block out noise on a flight or a loud train.

What to check before you buy

  • Your phone's codec support: LDAC only helps if your device supports it.
  • Fit: check that ear hooks sit well with your glasses, hair or hat.
  • Surroundings: open-ear sound leaks a little, so consider quiet shared spaces.
  • Water exposure: IPX4 means splash resistance only.
  • What's in the box: confirm the charging case and any cable or spare parts.
  • Local rules: if you wear them near traffic, follow local rules on headphone use.
