The Reolink Battery Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) is a camera doorbell that can run on its own battery or on existing low-voltage doorbell wiring. It shows who is at the door on your phone and lets you talk to them. This page covers what its specs mean and what to check before fitting one.
Battery or wired power
You can install it wire-free for flexible placement. Reolink says the battery can last up to 10 months per charge, based on 5 minutes of recording per day. That figure depends heavily on how often the doorbell is triggered, so a busy doorstep will drain it sooner.
If you have doorbell wiring, you can connect it to 8-24VAC to keep the battery topped up and reduce upkeep.
The head-to-toe view
The doorbell records at 4MP (2048 x 2048) in a 1:1 square frame, with a view of 150° x 150° x 180°. A square image is taller than a typical widescreen doorbell picture, so it can show a visitor from head to toe, along with a parcel left on the doorstep. HDR helps balance bright skies and dark porches, and night vision keeps the image usable after dark.
Smart detection and notifications
The doorbell detects people, vehicles, animals and packages. Reolink says no subscription is needed for AI detection. Alerts arrive as image notifications in the app, with up to 25 rich notifications a day on the free plan, according to the listing.
Wi-Fi and storage
It supports 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi, which in general gives you a choice between range (2.4GHz) and speed (5GHz). Local storage works without a subscription through a Reolink Home Hub, an NVR, FTP or an SD card of up to 512GB, with encrypted data. Reolink Cloud storage is also available if you prefer it.
Talking to visitors
Two-way audio lets you talk to visitors live, and you receive a video call notification when someone presses the button. A voice changer can disguise your voice for privacy, and you can send preset or custom replies when you cannot answer.
Smart home and chime compatibility
It works with Google Assistant and IFTTT, and with the Reolink Home Hub it can be integrated into Home Assistant. For an indoor chime, Reolink says it works with the Reolink Chime Plus (sold separately). It is not compatible with the Reolink Chime, and Reolink does not recommend using it with a third-party mechanical chime.
Who it suits
It suits households that want a doorbell camera without being tied to wiring, renters who cannot drill extensively, and people who like to keep recordings on a local device.
What to check before you buy
- Power: decide between battery-only and 8-24VAC wiring, and check your existing transformer.
- Chime: an indoor chime needs the Chime Plus, which is sold separately.
- Wi-Fi: test the signal at your front door.
- Storage: an SD card or Home Hub is needed for local recording. Check what is in the box.
- Size and mounting: it measures about 7.8 x 3.9 x 2.9 in (20 x 10 x 7 cm). Check your door frame, and follow the manual for installation.
