The eufy Security Video Doorbell E340 (model T8214) is a battery-powered doorbell with two cameras and 2K resolution. This version comes with a second quick-release rechargeable battery pack, so one battery can charge while the other is in use. It is aimed at people who want to see who is at the door and what has been left on the step, without running new wiring.
Two cameras at the door
eufy says the E340 uses a front-facing camera and a downward-facing one. The front camera is aimed at visitors, and the lower one looks at the ground in front of the door, where parcels are usually left. Having both in one unit means a single device covers two views that would otherwise need two cameras. How much of the doorstep is visible still depends on how the doorbell is mounted, so it is worth thinking about the height and angle of your entrance.
What 2K resolution means
2K video has more pixels than standard Full HD, which typically means more detail when you zoom in on a face or a delivery label. eufy describes the picture as clear enough to identify visitors. In practice, image quality also depends on your Wi-Fi signal and the lighting at your door.
Colour night vision
eufy describes a dual-light system that, together with its image-processing algorithm, gives a colour view at night with less blur than earlier versions. The stated clear nighttime viewing distance is up to 16 feet (5 metres). Colour night vision usually relies on a small built-in light, so results in a very dark porch can differ from daytime footage.
Backup battery and power
The bundle includes the doorbell and an extra 6,500 mAh quick-release battery pack. eufy says that with two batteries you can swap them over and keep the doorbell running through the year. Battery life in any doorbell varies with temperature, how often it records and how many people walk past, so plan a swap routine that suits your door.
Chimes and local storage
The E340 can connect to your existing chime, eufy HomeBase S280, eufy HomeBase S380, the eufy MiniBase Chime (T8023), Alexa devices and Google voice assistant devices. eufy notes it is not compatible with the original eufy Wi-Fi Chime (T8020) or the eufy Chime (T8740/T8742). The brand also says footage can be saved locally, with no subscription needed for that.
Who it suits
It suits homeowners and renters who want a doorbell that does not depend on existing doorbell wiring and who like to watch for parcels as well as visitors. People who prefer to keep recordings on a device at home rather than online may also find the local-storage approach relevant.
What to check before you buy
- Chime compatibility: confirm your chime is on the supported list above and is not one of the models listed as incompatible.
- Wi-Fi at the door: check the signal strength where the doorbell will be mounted.
- Mounting: confirm you can fix it at a suitable height and angle for both cameras, and read the mounting options in the manual.
- Battery routine: decide where you will charge the spare pack and how you will remember to swap it.
- Local recording: check what extra hardware or setup the manual requires to save footage locally.
- Local rules: check rules about recording areas beyond your own property.
