The AOSU video doorbell (model V8E2CA11) is a Wi-Fi doorbell camera that shows visitors and parcels at your front door and sends the picture to your phone. It records in 2K and has a tall, vertical field of view meant to show a person from head to toe. A chime unit is included for indoor alerts.
Head-to-toe view
AOSU gives the lens a 170° ultra-wide angle and a 9:16 vertical view. Most doorbell cameras use a wider, horizontal frame, which can cut off a parcel left on the ground. A vertical frame is meant to show both the visitor's face and the doorstep.
What 2K means
2K video has more detail than standard 1080p, typically meaning faces and labels are easier to make out in a recording. More detail also means more data over your Wi-Fi.
Package and human detection
The doorbell detects parcels at the door and alerts you, and AOSU says this works without a subscription. Its human detection aims to alert you to people rather than animals or shadows, which can cut down on needless notifications. Notifications include a picture.
Talking to visitors
Two-way voice lets you speak to a visitor from anywhere your phone has a connection. There are also preset quick voice replies for when you are busy, and a voice changer, which AOSU says can be used for privacy.
The chime and smart home
The included chime plugs in indoors so you can hear the doorbell where you are in the house. It is supported only when paired with the doorbell it comes with. The doorbell works with Alexa and Google Assistant for hands-free control and alerts. It also supports local storage for recordings.
Wi-Fi, lights and recording
This doorbell is for 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only. During normal operation it shows a blue light ring, and it records event videos automatically.
Size
The unit measures 6.1 x 2.5 x 5.4 inches (about 15.5 x 6.4 x 13.7 cm), which is taller than many older doorbells. Check that it fits your door frame or wall.
Who it suits
It suits households that want to see who is at the door and keep an eye on deliveries, and renters or owners comfortable with a Wi-Fi device. Anyone with a very weak signal at the door may need a Wi-Fi extender.
What to check before you buy
- Wi-Fi: confirm the signal at your front door on 2.4GHz.
- Power and mounting: check the manual on how it is powered and mounted, and whether your door allows it.
- Storage: see what local storage it needs and whether any cloud option involves a subscription.
- Privacy: check local rules on recording video and audio, especially covering neighbours' property.
- Chime: confirm where you will plug in the chime and that it reaches the doorbell's signal.
