The PHILIPS DDA270X-2TXS is a video doorbell with two cameras and an indoor chime. It records at 2K resolution, can run on a battery or on wired power, and works with a phone app. It is designed to show who is at the door and what is on the step below.
Two cameras, two views
The front camera looks out at people approaching. A second camera points downward to cover the ground and any packages left at the door, which a single wide camera often misses. PHILIPS notes that live streaming comes from the front camera only, because of screen limitations.
What 2K QHD and night vision mean
2K QHD is typically 2560 x 1440 pixels, sharper than 1080p, which helps when you want to read a face or a label from a doorstep. Infrared night vision lets the camera produce a monochrome image in the dark, using its own invisible light source.
Motion detection
The doorbell combines radar, PIR (passive infrared) sensors and human detection. In general, PIR picks up heat and movement, while radar senses motion in a different way, and layering them is a common way to reduce alerts from passing cars or swaying branches. You can customise detection zones so that, for example, the pavement is ignored.
Local storage
PHILIPS says recordings are motion-activated and stored locally, up to 8 GB, with AES 128-bit encryption, and that no subscription is needed to access them. Local storage has a limit, so older clips are typically overwritten once it fills. Check in the app how long clips are kept.
Power: battery or wired
A 10,000 mAh battery is listed, and the doorbell can instead be wired. A wired supply must be 8-24 V and above 10 VA. Battery life depends on how often the doorbell triggers, the temperature and the settings. Wiring a doorbell involves mains-adjacent work for some homes, so follow local electrical codes and the manual, or use a qualified electrician.
Chime, audio and smart home
The kit includes a chime for indoors. Two-way audio uses the built-in microphone and speaker, and the doorbell is compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant.
Weather resistance
PHILIPS describes protection against wind, rain and sun, intended for year-round use outdoors. The listing doesn't give a protection code here, so check the manual for the temperature range and mounting details.
Size
The unit measures about 7.2 x 5.0 x 2.5 inches (18 x 12.7 x 6.4 cm) and weighs 1.4 lb (about 0.64 kg), so it is a larger device than a basic doorbell. Check that it fits your door frame or wall.
Who it suits
It suits homes that want to watch the doorstep, including parcels, without a monthly plan, and people who can choose between a battery or an existing doorbell wire. It is less natural for those who prefer cloud storage for long-term footage.
What to check before you buy
- Wi-Fi: the signal at the front door must be strong enough for live video.
- Power: decide between battery and wired, and confirm your transformer's voltage.
- Mounting: check space for the unit's size and the angle for the lower camera.
- Storage: 8 GB is the listed local capacity.
- Privacy rules: local rules on recording public areas and neighbours may apply.
- Charging and upkeep: a battery needs recharging occasionally.
