The HAPPRUN H1 is a portable home projector with native 1080P resolution. It is designed for bedroom movies, gaming and backyard movie nights, and it comes with a 100-inch screen, so you can start without buying extras.

Resolution and contrast

The H1 has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080, which means the panel itself produces full HD rather than scaling up from a lower resolution. HAPPRUN says it also accepts 4K input and quotes a 10000:1 contrast ratio. Contrast figures like this are measured under the maker's own conditions, so treat them as a rough guide. In practice, projectors look best in a dark or dim room.

Screen size and placement

The projector gives a picture from 40 to 200 inches, at a projection distance of about 6.8 to 16.4 feet (roughly 2.1 to 5 metres). As a rule, the further back the projector sits, the bigger the image becomes, and the dimmer it gets.

Keystone correction of ±15° straightens a picture that looks trapezoid because the projector is tilted or off-centre. It is a convenience, though digital correction can soften the image slightly, so aim to place the projector squarely facing the screen. HAPPRUN says it can sit on a desk, hang from a ceiling or go on a tripod.

Sound and Bluetooth

Two built-in speakers handle sound. For better audio, the Bluetooth 5.1 chip can connect to wireless speakers, soundbars and headphones. HAPPRUN states that Bluetooth works for audio devices only: it does not connect to smartphones or Alexa.

Connections

The H1 offers HDMI, two USB ports, AV input and a 3.5mm headphone jack. HAPPRUN lists compatibility with streaming sticks, Roku, DVD players, laptops, USB drives, phones, tablets and the PS5 and PS4. That is a broad set, but check how your own phone connects, as the available method depends on the phone and cable.

What is in the box

According to HAPPRUN, the package contains:

  • the 1080P projector
  • a 100-inch projector screen
  • an AV cable
  • an HDMI cable
  • a remote control
  • a user manual

The brand also gives a 24-month warranty and customer support.

Size and weight

The projector measures about 9.3 x 8.1 x 3.5 inches (roughly 24 x 21 x 9 cm) and weighs about 4.5 lb (about 2 kg), small enough to carry between rooms or take outdoors.

Who it suits

It suits families who want an occasional movie night in the garden, students and renters with limited space, and gamers who like a bigger picture than a monitor gives. It is less suited to bright rooms or daytime viewing, because the listing does not give a brightness figure in lumens. That makes it worth checking before you commit.

What to check before you buy

  • Brightness: the listing gives no lumen figure, so check the specifications and plan on a darkened room.
  • Smart features: this model takes input from other devices rather than listing a built-in app system, so plan to connect a streaming stick or similar.
  • Throw distance: measure your room against the 6.8 to 16.4 feet range for the image size you want.
  • Phone connection: confirm how your phone will connect, given the Bluetooth limit above.
  • Power outdoors: you need a power source, and a stable surface or tripod.
  • Screen: the supplied screen is 100 inches; larger images need a bigger screen or a suitable wall.
