The HAPPRUN Google TV Projector is a compact smart projector with its streaming system built in. The idea is to plug it in, connect to Wi-Fi and start watching on a wall or screen, with no separate streaming stick. It can be used in a living room, a bedroom or outdoors.

Native 1080p and "4K support"

The projector's native resolution is 1920 x 1080. HAPPRUN also says it accepts 4K input, meaning it can take a 4K signal and display it at its own 1080p resolution. That is common on projectors at this level and is different from a native 4K image. For most movies and shows at normal screen sizes, 1080p is sharp. HDR 10+ support means it can read that high-dynamic-range format, though how much it helps depends on the lamp's brightness.

What 350 ANSI lumens means

ANSI lumens measure brightness under a standard method. At 350 ANSI lumens, a projector generally works best in a dim or dark room, and the picture can look washed out with strong daylight. HAPPRUN says it is bright enough to use with lights on, so the right expectation is a moderately lit room rather than direct sun. The listed contrast ratio is 20,000:1. The image can be set up to 200 inches, with 50% to 100% zoom, so you can shrink the picture without moving the projector. Larger images are dimmer, so a smaller picture is brighter.

Google TV and apps

HAPPRUN describes the system as officially licensed Google TV with licensed streaming apps and no app restrictions. Voice control is through the Google voice assistant on the remote. The listing says the software updates regularly. As with any smart TV platform, which apps are offered can vary by region, so check the apps you rely on.

Connections and casting

  • Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and Bluetooth 5.2, which can connect to two speakers, HAPPRUN says.
  • Google Cast and AirPlay for sharing from phones, tablets and laptops.
  • HDMI with ARC, USB and a 3.5 mm audio port for game consoles, laptops and speakers.
  • Dolby Audio support in the built-in speaker.

Mounting and size

It measures about 9.5 x 8.3 x 3.8 inches (24 x 21 x 9.7 cm). A standard M6 mounting hole in the base takes a tripod, a table stand, a ceiling mount or a wall mount. The brand notes a cooling system with low noise.

Who it suits

It suits people who want a flexible, movable screen for movies, games and backyard evenings, and who prefer an all-in-one system. A fixed wall-mounted TV with a very bright image in a sunny room may suit others better.

What to check before you buy

  • Room light: plan for a dim room, or use curtains.
  • Throw distance: measure the gap between projector and wall for your desired screen size, using the manual's guidance.
  • Screen surface: a plain white wall or a projection screen works best.
  • Sound: consider speakers if you want louder or fuller audio.
  • Apps and accounts: make sure the apps you need are supported where you live.
  • Power and placement: leave room around the vents.
