The Blackview Fort 1 is a rugged Android smartphone built for work sites, outdoor trips and rough handling. It pairs a 10,000mAh battery with a tough body and a 6.56-inch screen, and it runs Android 15. The main trade-off with any rugged phone is bulk, and the Fort 1 is thicker and heavier than a typical slim phone.
Built to take knocks
Blackview lists the Fort 1 as IP69K rated, with drop protection from 2 metres, 30 minutes of water resistance at 2 metres, and full dust protection. The company says it suits camping, construction work, warehouses and other harsh settings. IP codes describe lab tests for dust and water, so it is still wise to follow the manual, for instance about keeping port covers closed, and to rinse off salt water or dirt rather than leaving it.
Battery and charging
The 10,000mAh battery is roughly double what many mainstream phones carry. Blackview quotes up to 20 days of standby, 20 hours of talk time and 8 hours of video playback. Those are the brand's figures, and actual use varies with signal, brightness and apps. The phone also supports OTG, meaning it can connect directly to USB devices such as flash drives.
Screen and cameras
The display is 6.56 inches with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 720 x 1612 resolution and up to 450 nits of brightness, according to Blackview. That is a modest resolution, and 450 nits is on the lower side for bright sunlight, which could matter if you mainly use it outdoors. The rear camera is 16MP and the front camera 8MP, with panorama, beauty and HDR modes.
Software, memory and storage
The phone ships with Android 15 and Blackview's Doke OS 4.2, which adds features such as call recording and real-time subtitles for video. It has 12GB of RAM, which Blackview describes as 4GB physical memory plus RAM expansion using storage, and 128GB of internal storage. A TF (microSD) card of up to 2TB can be added. The dual SIM tray takes two nano SIMs, or one nano SIM and a TF card, so you pick between a second line and extra storage.
Network compatibility
This is the point to read carefully. Blackview says the Fort 1 supports 4G and works on GSM-based carriers such as T-Mobile and the Canadian carriers Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido and Chatr, among others. It is not compatible with CDMA carriers such as Verizon, AT&T, Cricket, Straight Talk or U.S. Cellular, according to the brand. The listed bands include 4G FDD B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B12/B13/B17/B26/B66/B28, TDD B40/B41, plus 3G and 2G bands. Compare these against your carrier's bands before choosing.
Other features include NFC, GPS, a fingerprint sensor, face unlock and dual-band Wi-Fi. Blackview offers a two-year after-sales service.
Who it suits
It suits people who work outdoors or in tough conditions, hikers and campers, or anyone who wants a phone that can go a long time between charges. It's less suited to someone who prefers a slim phone or a very high-resolution display.
What to check before you buy
- Carrier bands: confirm your carrier's 4G bands match the list, and that the phone is allowed on its network.
- Size and weight: it is chunky, around 0.6 lb as listed, so check it fits your pockets and cases.
- SIM and storage: decide whether you need two SIMs or a memory card.
- Screen: consider whether 720p resolution and 450 nits suit how you use it.
- Updates and support: read the update and warranty terms.
- What's in the box: check the manual for charger and accessories.
