The Blackview BV6200 is a rugged Android smartphone built for people who work or play outdoors. Its main points are a very large 13,000mAh battery, dust and water sealing, and drop protection. It also has a 6.56-inch display and room for two SIM cards plus a memory card. Here is what the listed specs mean, including an important note on network compatibility.

The 13,000mAh battery

Most phones carry batteries of roughly 4,000 to 5,000mAh, so this one is about two to three times larger. Blackview says it gives up to 1,488 hours of standby, 50 hours of calling and 20 hours of video, figures that are the brand's own and depend on conditions. Charging is 18W, and Blackview says a full charge takes about four hours. A 5W OTG function lets the phone act as a power bank for other devices through a cable.

A big battery brings extra thickness and weight, which is typical of rugged phones.

Built to take knocks

Blackview lists IP68 and IP69K sealing plus MIL-STD-810H drop protection, and says the phone withstands a drop to the ground from 1.5 metres. In general, IP68 means protection against dust and continuous immersion under conditions set by the manufacturer, and IP69K adds resistance to high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. MIL-STD-810H is a US military test standard for environmental durability. Check the manual for the exact conditions before relying on any of these.

Processor, memory and storage

The phone uses a MediaTek Helio A22 processor, an entry-level chip suited to everyday tasks such as calls, messaging, maps and browsing. The listing describes 4GB of RAM that can act as 8GB by adding 4GB of virtual memory, with 64GB of built-in storage. A dedicated micro SD slot accepts cards of up to 2TB, and the listing notes the phone should be restarted after inserting a card. Virtual memory uses storage space and is generally not as fast as real RAM.

Screen, sound and features

The display is 6.56 inches, with a screen-to-body ratio of up to 83%. Blackview says glove mode keeps the touchscreen usable with gloves. A speaker rated at up to 98 dB suits noisy worksites. Face recognition unlocks the phone, and it supports GPS, Beidou, GLONASS and Galileo satellite navigation. It runs Android 13 with Blackview's Doke 3.1 layer.

Network compatibility

Blackview says it supports 4G on GSM carriers such as T-Mobile, and that it is not compatible with CDMA carriers, including AT&T, Cricket Wireless, Verizon, Sprint, Boost Mobile, Straight Talk and U.S. Cellular. The listed bands are 2G GSM B2/B3/B5/B8, 3G WCDMA B2/B3/B4/B5 and 4G FDD B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B12/B13/B25/B26/B66. Compare these with your carrier's bands before buying.

Who it suits

It suits outdoor workers, hikers, cyclists and anyone who wants long battery life and a tough phone, and who does not need flagship speed or camera performance.

What to check before you buy

  • Carrier bands: confirm your carrier's bands against the lists above.
  • Weight and size: a large battery makes a heavier phone; handle one first if possible.
  • SIM and card: two nano SIMs and a micro SD card fit; SIMs and cards are not included.
  • Performance: an entry-level processor suits basic tasks rather than demanding games.
  • Charging: 18W means a long charge; check the charger supplied.
  • Warranty: Blackview states a 24-month guarantee; check its terms.
