The ASUS PCE-BE6500 is an internal WiFi 7 (802.11be) card for desktop computers. It plugs into a PCIe slot and adds wireless networking and Bluetooth 5.4 to a PC that has neither, or that has an older adapter. It is meant for a desktop where running a network cable to the router is not practical.
What WiFi 7 changes
WiFi 7 is the generation after WiFi 6 and 6E. ASUS says it brings speeds up to 2.4 times faster than the previous generation, along with better connection efficiency and stronger network security. Two of the main technical changes are named in the listing: the 6 GHz band and 4096-QAM modulation. QAM describes how much data is packed into each radio signal, and a higher number generally means more data per transmission when the signal is strong. Real-world speeds depend on your router, your internet plan and the distance between them.
The 6 GHz band
ASUS says the card connects to a WiFi 7 router over the dedicated 6 GHz band, so it does not compete for bandwidth with devices using older standards. Fewer devices on the band typically means less congestion and interference. The trade-off with 6 GHz is that it covers shorter distances and passes through walls less well than 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, so it is best when the router is in the same room or close by.
Tri-band and MLO
The card is described as tri-band, covering 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz. The title also lists MLO (Multi-Link Operation), a WiFi 7 feature that allows a device to use more than one band at once, which can improve reliability and reduce delays. Both the card and the router need to support it. The listing also mentions OFDMA and MU-MIMO, which help a router serve several devices efficiently, and WPA3 security.
Bluetooth 5.4
The card includes Bluetooth 5.4. ASUS says it improves security, reliability and energy efficiency over Bluetooth 5.3. That is useful for wireless headphones, keyboards, mice and controllers on a desktop.
Antennas and placement
The card has external, adjustable antennas. A desktop tucked under a desk or inside a metal-heavy case can have weak reception, and being able to move the antennas out into the open usually helps. ASUS says this helps reduce dead zones.
Compatibility notes
The title states "Win 11 only", so the card is meant for a PC running Windows 11. It is a PCIe card, so it needs a free slot on the motherboard. The card measures 4.9 x 3.5 x 0.8 inches (about 12.4 x 8.9 x 2 cm) and weighs 0.2 lb.
What to check before you buy
- Operating system: the listing says Windows 11 only.
- Free PCIe slot: confirm that your motherboard has one and that it is not blocked by a graphics card.
- Your router: to use WiFi 7 and the 6 GHz band, you need a router that supports them, and your region must allow 6 GHz use.
- Case and antenna placement: make sure the antenna cable can reach a spot with a clear line to the router.
- Drivers: check the manufacturer's site for current drivers and the installation steps.
- Power off first: follow the standard precautions for opening a PC and fitting a card.
The short version
- An internal WiFi 7 (802.11be) PCIe card from ASUS, model PCE-BE6500.
- Tri-band with 6 GHz, 4096-QAM and MLO, plus Bluetooth 5.4.
- External adjustable antennas for better positioning.
- Listed for Windows 11 only.
- A WiFi 7 router is needed to get the full benefit.
