The ECO-WORTHY NS24L40 is a 40A MPPT solar charge controller. It sits between your solar panels and your battery bank, managing how the battery is charged so it is filled efficiently and not overcharged. It works with 12V and 24V DC systems, such as those in cabins, RVs, boats, sheds and small off-grid setups.
What MPPT does
A charge controller has to match the panels' voltage to what the battery needs. MPPT (maximum power point tracking) controllers continuously adjust to find the point where the panels deliver the most power, then convert the excess voltage into extra charging current. The older PWM type does not do this. ECO-WORTHY says tracking efficiency reaches 99% and peak conversion efficiency is 98%, and that this is 40% higher than a traditional PWM controller. It adds that the controller keeps a stable charging current on cloudy days. MPPT generally helps most when panel voltage is well above battery voltage or when light is weak.
Input and output limits
The listing gives these limits:
- System voltage: 12V or 24V DC.
- Maximum solar array: 560W on a 12V system, 1120W on 24V.
- Maximum output current: 40A to the battery.
The 24V figure is double because power equals voltage times current, so at the same current a 24V system carries twice the watts. Always check the panels' open-circuit voltage against the controller's maximum input voltage in the manual.
Compatible batteries
ECO-WORTHY says it can charge Gel, AGM, lithium, LiFePO4, flooded and NCM/NCA batteries. You choose the battery type with the buttons. The charging profile differs by chemistry: lead-acid batteries use four stages (bulk, absorb, float and equalize), while lithium batteries use two (bulk and absorb), with a lithium reactivation function.
Display and sensor
An OLED screen shows PV voltage, battery voltage, charging current and charging power. A temperature sensor is part of the name, since battery charging voltages are typically adjusted for temperature. It uses a negative ground design.
Size
It measures 10.9 x 7.0 x 2.8 inches and weighs 3.5 lb (about 1.6 kg).
Who it suits
It suits people building or upgrading a small to mid-sized 12V or 24V solar system who want an MPPT controller with a clear display and settings for several battery types.
What to check before you buy
- Panel array. Check total wattage and open-circuit voltage against the 560W/1120W and voltage limits.
- Battery type and voltage. Confirm the chemistry is supported and set correctly.
- Wire and fuse sizing. Use cable and protection rated for the currents involved.
- Ground type. Check that a negative ground system suits your setup.
- Mounting. Allow space and ventilation, and plan the temperature sensor position.
- Standards. Follow the manual and local electrical codes, or have a qualified person do the installation.
The short version
- A 40A MPPT controller for 12V/24V DC solar systems.
- Handles up to 560W (12V) or 1120W (24V) of panels, according to ECO-WORTHY.
- Charges Gel, AGM, lithium, LiFePO4, flooded and NCM/NCA batteries.
