The ECO-WORTHY 30A solar charge controller sits between a solar panel and a battery and regulates how the battery is charged. Without a controller, a panel can overcharge a battery and damage it. This model detects 12V or 24V systems automatically, shows live data on an LCD and can be extended with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi monitoring. It is aimed at RV, boat and other small off-grid setups.
What a PWM controller does
PWM stands for pulse width modulation. In general, a PWM controller connects the panel to the battery and rapidly switches the connection on and off to hold the battery at the correct voltage. It is a simple, widely used design that suits systems where the panel voltage is matched to the battery. ECO-WORTHY says this controller uses three-stage charging: bulk, absorption and float. Bulk pushes in most of the charge, absorption tops it off at a steady voltage, and float holds the battery full without overcharging it.
Battery types and settings
The controller has preset modes for LFP (lithium iron phosphate), FLD (flooded), SLD (sealed) and GEL batteries, plus a custom CUS mode for setting your own parameters. Different battery chemistries need different charging voltages, so choosing the right mode matters. It auto-detects 12V and 24V systems. A three-button interface and an LCD screen are used to adjust settings and read real-time data.
Monitoring and remote access
On its own, the unit has an LCD and records 30 days of solar generation data. ECO-WORTHY says that when paired with its BW02 Data Acquisition Unit, it gains Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Bluetooth gives control from up to 98 feet (about 30 metres) in open air, and Wi-Fi allows monitoring through an app from anywhere. The BW02 is a separate accessory, so check whether it is included. Voltage and current measurement accuracy is rated at under 1%.
Protection and build
The brand lists safeguards against reverse connection, short circuit, overcurrent, low and high voltage and overheating. A sturdy metal backplate helps carry heat away from the internal parts. The controller measures 5.9 x 3.7 x 1.3 inches (about 15 x 9.4 x 3.3 cm) and weighs 0.5 lb (about 230 g). Two USB ports (5V/2A) can charge small devices.
What to check before you buy
- Current: confirm the panel array's short-circuit current stays within the 30A limit, with some margin.
- Voltage: check that the panels and battery bank suit a PWM controller and a 12V or 24V system.
- Battery type: confirm the charging mode matches your battery, and follow the battery maker's voltage settings.
- Remote monitoring: confirm whether the BW02 unit is needed and included.
- Wiring: use the cable sizes and fuses recommended in the manual, and follow local electrical codes.
- Mounting: choose a dry, ventilated spot close to the battery.
The short version
- A 30A, 3-stage PWM solar charge controller for 12V/24V systems.
- Presets for LFP, flooded, sealed and GEL batteries, plus a custom mode.
- LCD, 30-day data record and dual 5V/2A USB ports.
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi monitoring need the separate BW02 unit.
- Follow the manual and local electrical codes when installing.
