The MOOKA KJ190L is a floor-standing air purifier built for large rooms and homes with pets. It pulls room air through a three-stage filter to catch airborne dust, pet hair and dander, and it adds a quiet sleep mode for bedrooms. Here is what its features mean in practice.

Why the air intake matters

MOOKA gives this purifier a larger front air inlet and a wider dual-side inlet. The idea is that more intake area lets it draw in more air, including loose pet hair, than a single-inlet design. The brand rates it to clean up to 1,800 square feet of air per hour, and the product is marketed for rooms of around 2,000 square feet.

Coverage figures like these are normally measured under set conditions, so treat them as a guide. In general, a purifier works best when the room is closed off and the unit has clear space around its inlets.

Three-stage filtration explained

The filter stack has three stages. A pre-filter catches larger particles such as hair and lint. The H13 True HEPA filter is the main stage: HEPA filters of this grade are designed to trap particles as small as 0.3 microns, and MOOKA lists pollen, dust and pet dander among them. An activated carbon layer, which MOOKA says uses more carbon pellets than usual, is there to absorb odours.

The pre-filter can be cleaned with water or a vacuum cleaner. MOOKA says this helps extend the life of the HEPA filter, which is not washable and is replaced when it wears out.

Fan speeds, timer and sleep mode

There are four fan speeds. A higher speed moves air faster but is louder, so many people run it higher when a room is first occupied and lower afterwards. The timer offers 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours, handy for running it while you sleep or are out.

Sleep mode runs at the lowest speed with the display lights off. MOOKA rates the noise as low as 20 dB, roughly a whisper. As with any figure like this, it applies to the lowest setting only.

Aroma pad and child lock

A pad on top takes a few drops of essential oil if you want a light scent in the room. It is optional, and you can leave it empty. A child lock disables the buttons so settings can't be changed by accident by small children or pets.

Who it suits

This model suits households with cats or dogs, people who want a large-room unit for a living area or open-plan space, and anyone who wants a quiet unit for a bedroom.

What to check before you buy

  • Room size: compare the rated coverage with your room, and allow for high ceilings.
  • Placement: leave space around the front and side inlets, and keep it away from curtains.
  • Replacement filters: check which filter fits this model and how often the brand suggests changing it.
  • Noise: the 20 dB figure is for sleep mode; higher speeds are louder.
  • Upkeep: plan to clean the pre-filter regularly, following the manual.
  • Power and cord: confirm the cord reaches an outlet from where you want to stand it.
