The DREO DR-HAP008S, also sold as the Dreo 338S, is a compact smart air purifier for bedrooms and living spaces. It draws room air through a three-layer filter and returns it cleaner, and it can be controlled by app or voice assistant. Here's what its main specifications mean.

What a CADR of 115 CFM tells you

CADR stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate. It measures how much filtered air a purifier delivers, in cubic feet per minute. DREO states a CADR of 115 CFM, independently tested and AHAM Verified, which means it's been through the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers' testing programme.

DREO says that figure refreshes the air every 12.4 minutes in rooms up to 178 sq. ft., which is 4.8 air changes per hour (ACH). At a lower rate of one air change per hour, it quotes coverage of up to 856 sq. ft. In general, the more air changes you want, the smaller the room the purifier suits. Rooms with high ceilings need more allowance than the floor area suggests.

The 3-in-1 filter

The filter combines a pre-filter, a high-efficiency filter and an activated carbon layer. DREO says it captures fine particles including PM2.5, pollen, dust and smoke, and helps reduce household odours. Typically, the pre-filter catches larger particles such as hair, the high-efficiency layer catches fine particles, and carbon helps with odours.

The unit comes with filter DR-HPA032 pre-installed, and the brand recommends that model for replacements. It calculates remaining filter life every hour and sends reminders through the app and an indicator light.

Sensor, display and modes

A PM2.5 sensor monitors the air in real time. An LED display shows AQI levels from 1 to 999, and a four-colour light (blue, green, orange, red) gives an at-a-glance reading. The modes are Auto, Turbo, Sleep and Normal, with four adjustable speeds. In Auto, the fan speeds up when the air quality drops and slows when it improves. Sleep mode turns off the display lights.

Quiet running

DREO describes its HyperSilent technology as a BLDC motor, a bottom air intake and a spiral airflow design aimed at reducing noise. A brushless DC motor typically runs smoother and more quietly than a basic AC motor. The brand doesn't give a decibel figure, so check the manual for noise levels at each speed.

App, voice control and scheduling

The purifier works with Alexa, Google Assistant and the DREO app, over Wi-Fi. The app offers 30-day air quality reports, tracking PM2.5 trends, and 24-hour scheduling with minute-by-minute precision. There's also a 12-hour timer on the device itself.

Energy and extras

DREO says it is ENERGY STAR certified and uses approximately 125 kWh a year. A built-in aroma pad takes essential oils, which aren't included. It measures 9.2 x 9.2 x 14.2 inches and weighs 5.6 lb (about 2.5 kg).

Who it suits

It suits a bedroom, home office or small living room where you want automatic, monitored air cleaning with app and voice control.

What to check before you buy

  • Room size: compare your room's floor area and ceiling height with the 178 sq. ft. figure.
  • Space around it: leave clearance for airflow, as the manual describes.
  • Filter upkeep: replacement filters are an ongoing part of owning a purifier; check availability of the DR-HPA032.
  • Wi-Fi and accounts: check your network supports the app and your voice assistant.
  • Aroma pad: essential oils are a personal choice; follow the manual's advice on using them.
  • Noise: check the manual's levels if the room is for sleeping.
