The LEVOIT LV-H135 is a floor-standing air purifier for larger rooms. It pulls room air through a three-layer filter to capture airborne dust and household odours, and it adjusts its own fan speed as the air changes. This page explains what its main specs mean and what to confirm before choosing it.

What the 3-in-1 filter does

LEVOIT describes a three-stage filter. A nylon pre-filter catches larger particles such as pet hair and dust. A middle filter handles finer particles, and an activated carbon layer is aimed at smoke, fumes, VOCs and cooking or household odours. LEVOIT lists pollen, pet dander and dust among the particles it targets.

Layered filters are common in purifiers: coarse material is caught first so it doesn't clog the finer layers. Activated carbon works by adsorbing odour molecules, and in general it gradually fills up, which is why filters need replacing.

What CADR 212 and the room sizes mean

CADR, the clean air delivery rate, measures how much filtered air a purifier delivers per minute. Higher numbers generally mean faster cleaning of a given room. LEVOIT gives a CADR of 212 and says the unit changes the air 3.4 times an hour in a 463 sq ft (about 43 m²) room, or once an hour in a 1,577 sq ft (about 147 m²) room.

The practical reading is that the smaller the room, the more often the air is cycled through. In a typical bedroom or living room, the unit has room to spare. In an open-plan space, expect fewer air changes per hour.

Auto mode and the dust sensor

In Auto mode, a laser dust sensor scans the air and the fan speed follows what it reads, speeding up when the air is dirtier and slowing down when it settles. That means you don't have to adjust it by hand through the day.

A timer offers 2, 4 or 8 hours, and a Check Filter indicator tells you when the filter is due for replacement.

Sleep mode and noise

LEVOIT says Sleep Mode runs as low as 26 dB, which is in the range of a quiet whisper on a decibel scale. Noise rises with fan speed, so the figure applies to the lowest setting, and higher speeds are audibly louder.

Size and placement

The purifier measures 13.4 x 13.6 x 24.6 inches (about 34 x 35 x 62 cm) and weighs 13.7 lb (about 6.2 kg). LEVOIT says you can wheel it between rooms. As with most purifiers, it typically works best with some clear space around it, rather than pushed tight against a wall or furniture. Check the manual for the recommended clearances.

Who it suits

It suits people who want one purifier for a bedroom, living room or kitchen, who like an automatic mode, and who are happy to replace a filter periodically.

What to check before you buy

  • Room size: compare your room's area with the 463 sq ft figure for 3.4 air changes an hour.
  • Floor space: it is about 25 inches tall and over 13 inches square.
  • Replacement filters: LEVOIT names the LV-H135-RF as its replacement 3-in-1 filter and recommends using its own filters. Check availability and how often you will need one.
  • Noise: think about which fan speed you will use at night.
  • Upkeep: check the manual for cleaning the sensor and housing.

The short version

  • A floor-standing LEVOIT air purifier with a 3-in-1 filter: pre-filter, middle filter and activated carbon.
  • CADR 212, with 3.4 air changes an hour in a 463 sq ft room, as LEVOIT states.
  • Auto mode with a laser dust sensor, a 2, 4 or 8 hour timer and a filter indicator.
  • Sleep Mode as low as 26 dB; 13.7 lb with wheels for moving it.
