The ECOVACS Winbot W2 Omni is a window-cleaning robot that sticks to glass by suction and works its way across the surface on its own. It comes with a portable station that serves as a dock, control panel and power source, which means it can clean windows that are far from an outlet. The aim is to take over the awkward job of reaching large or high panes.
The portable station
ECOVACS calls the station an all-in-one dock: it acts as a control panel, a changer, a stabiliser and a carrying case. A built-in lithium battery powers the robot where no outlet is available. The brand says a full charge lasts 110 minutes, which is equivalent to about 55 square metres of coverage. Real coverage varies with the glass, the dirt and the cleaning mode.
How it moves and cleans
The robot uses an upgraded synchronous belt, which ECOVACS says resists water and friction, to climb and stay in place without slipping. Suction is rated at 5500Pa. Higher suction helps hold the unit against the glass, though the surface still needs to be smooth and suitable.
Navigation uses the WIN-SLAM 4.0 path-planning algorithm with precise edge detection. ECOVACS says this, with a brushless motor, lifts cleaning efficiency by 30%. Multiple sensors help it avoid obstacles. Typically, such robots work best on framed glass with a clear border, and the manual will describe frameless glass precautions.
Three-nozzle spray
The "three-nozzle wide-angle spray atomization" system sprays water ahead of a wet mop. Compared with the earlier W1 Pro, ECOVACS says it offers 100% more water pressure and 90% more spray coverage, designed to loosen stubborn dirt in one pass. Wetting the glass first is helpful because dried-on dirt generally needs moisture and a little dwell time.
Edge cleaning and modes
Frame edges are where grime tends to collect. The along-the-edge mode, which ECOVACS says improves edge cleaning by 65%, keeps the robot moving close to the frame. There are five cleaning modes, which you choose from the station panel or the ECOVACS HOME app.
Protection systems
ECOVACS describes a 12-stage protection system combining hardware and software, and mentions an insurance protection scheme for damage or malfunction. Any robot that clings to a vertical surface needs care: follow the manual on the safety rope, check the glass and frame condition, and don't use it on windows that are cracked or damaged.
Size and weight
The listing gives about 8.5 x 12.9 x 12.3 inches (22 x 33 x 31 cm) and a weight of 15.3 lb (about 6.9 kg), which includes the station.
Who it suits
It suits homes with large windows, sliding doors, conservatories or hard-to-reach panes, and people who find ladders or reaching out of upper floors unpleasant. The battery station helps where outdoor outlets are scarce.
What to check before you buy
- Window type: check the manual for supported glass, frame width and any exclusions such as frameless or very small panes.
- Water and cleaning pad: see which cleaning liquid and pads are recommended and how often to replace them.
- Safety rope: confirm there is a secure point to attach it.
- App and Wi-Fi: if you want app control, check coverage near the windows.
- Space: the station also holds the robot between jobs, so find a spot for it.
