The dreame L50 Ultra (model RLL94CE) is a robot vacuum and mop that comes with a multi-function dock. It is notable for ProLeap, a set of retractable legs that lifts the robot over steps and door tracks. The brand pairs that with AI obstacle avoidance and a hands-off dock, and targets homes that have thresholds, carpet and pets.

Crossing thresholds

Most robot vacuums are stopped by raised door tracks. With ProLeap, the L50 Ultra lifts its retractable legs to 6 cm (about 2.4 inches), which dreame says lets it glide over steps and thresholds smoothly. Measure your own sills against this figure, and check the manual for the types of surfaces it can cross.

The robot uses dual lasers, AI and 3D structured light. Dreame says it detects and avoids more than 180 types of obstacle, including shoes, furniture and cables, and moves around them without bumping into them. Picking up loose cables and socks beforehand still helps any robot.

Suction, brush and hair

Suction is rated at 19,500Pa. Pascals measure pressure difference, so a larger figure generally means a stronger pull, though the brush and airflow design matter as well. Dreame describes the sixth-generation TurboForce motor as quiet while it picks up fine dust and larger debris from floor gaps and carpets.

The HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush pairs a bristled rubber brush with a TPU rubber brush. The aim is to collect hair from hard floors and carpets without it wrapping around the roller, which preserves suction.

Corners and edges

Dual Flex Arm technology gives the robot an extendable side brush and mop. The brand says they reach corners, narrow spaces and the areas under low furniture.

Carpet options

Five carpet modes can be set in the Dreamehome app:

  • removable mops, to keep carpets dry;
  • liftable mops, for low-pile carpets;
  • complete carpet avoidance;
  • intensive cleaning, which vacuums twice;
  • suction boost.

The PowerDock

The dock handles dust emptying, and dreame says you can skip emptying the bin for up to 100 days. It also rinses mop pads with hot water, dries them, refills solution and water for mopping, and washes the board automatically.

Wi-Fi and size

The listing states that it supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, for USA use only. The package measures about 17.0 x 16.0 x 27.0 inches and weighs 40.2 lb (about 18.2 kg), including the dock.

Who it suits

It suits homes with raised door tracks or small steps between rooms, a mix of hard floors and carpets, and anyone who wants the dock to do routine maintenance.

What to check before you buy

  • Thresholds: compare your sill heights with the 6 cm lift.
  • Wi-Fi: confirm that your network offers 2.4GHz.
  • Dock space: it needs an outlet and clear space around it.
  • Carpets: decide which of the five modes suits your rugs.
  • Consumables: check dust bags, pads and filters in the manual.
  • Upkeep: the brushes, sensors and tanks still need occasional cleaning.
