The Vantrue N5 is a four-channel dash cam that records the road ahead, the road behind and the inside of the vehicle from two angles. It's aimed at drivers who want broad coverage, such as families, rideshare and taxi drivers, and fleet operators.
Four cameras, four views
Vantrue says the N5 combines a 158° front camera, a 160° front cabin camera, a 160° rear cabin camera and a 165° rear camera. The maximum resolution is 2.7K (1944P) for the front camera and 1080P for each of the other three. You can select 1-, 2-, 3- or 4-channel recording depending on what you need.
The rear cabin camera is described as an industry first. It covers the back seat, trunk area and side windows, which can help monitor children, pets or luggage. Cabin recording does raise privacy questions, so check local rules on recording passengers and use the option to turn off audio.
Night vision and image quality
Vantrue uses a STARVIS 2 sensor for the front camera, which the company says improves near-infrared performance and reduces noise, helping capture details such as licence plates in dark or backlit conditions. The two cabin cameras have infrared lights so they can record in an unlit interior.
Wi-Fi, GPS and the app
The N5 has 5G Wi-Fi and dual-system GPS. Through the Vantrue app you can adjust settings, preview and edit footage, share it, and see location, speed (km/h or mph) and route. The app can generate mileage reports, and firmware can be updated over the air. Vantrue says the 5G Wi-Fi gives transfers four times faster than before.
Parking mode
Parking mode needs a hardwire kit, which is sold separately. When the car is off, the N5 switches into 24-hour buffered parking mode, recording when it detects movement or a collision. Buffered detection means the clip includes footage from just before the trigger, and a low frame rate setting saves storage space on long stays.
Recording safeguards and controls
Loop recording overwrites the oldest files once the card is full, while a G-sensor with adjustable sensitivity locks footage from a collision into an event folder so it isn't overwritten. Vantrue says a supercapacitor and heat-resistant materials help it cope with temperature extremes.
Voice commands (English, Russian, Chinese, French and Japanese) can save video, take photos, and turn audio, Wi-Fi or the screen on and off. A magnetic mount lets you detach the camera without disturbing its cables, and the screen switches off automatically to limit distraction.
Installation and storage
The front camera has a ball-joint bracket and the rear lens rotates. Vantrue lists an optional suction cup mount for sloped windows and a 50 ft rear cable for larger vehicles, both sold separately. It supports SD cards up to 512GB, not included. The unit measures 5.6 x 6.9 x 3.8 inches (about 14 x 17.5 x 9.7 cm) and weighs 2.2 lb (1 kg). Vantrue states an 18-month warranty and no subscription fees.
Who it suits
It suits drivers who want cabin and rear coverage as well as the road ahead, and vehicles with extra length such as trucks and caravans.
