The VANTRUE N4 Pro S is a three-channel dash cam that records the road ahead, the cabin and the rear of the vehicle at the same time. VANTRUE calls it its flagship model. It suits drivers who want full coverage of the vehicle, including passengers and parked-car monitoring. Here is what its specs mean in practice.

Three cameras, three resolutions

The front camera records in 4K, the interior camera in 2.5K and the rear in 1080P, all at 30 frames per second. VANTRUE lists viewing angles of 155°, 160° and 165°, and says these give coverage without blind spots. The cabin camera is useful for taxis, ride-share and family trips, while the rear camera covers the traffic behind.

A separate front-and-rear mode (4K plus 2.5K) is also offered. VANTRUE says it reduces heat by 30% and saves power compared with triple recording.

STARVIS 2 sensors and night recording

Sony's STARVIS 2 is a low-light sensor family, and the N4 Pro S uses three of them with HDR. HDR combines exposures so that bright and dark areas both stay readable. VANTRUE says this gives twice the license plate accuracy in dim light or backlight under its PlatePix tech, and that plates can be readable for vehicles travelling up to 31mph on lit streets at night. Real results depend on lighting, distance and mounting.

The rear camera

The rear camera has a 2.5K STARVIS 2 sensor and rotates 360°, so it can point backwards, into the cabin or at the trunk. It connects by a 20ft cable, which VANTRUE says reaches most vehicles including cars, SUVs, minivans, trucks and buses.

Parking mode

VANTRUE describes buffered motion and impact detection that saves footage from 10 seconds before an event, with all three cameras active while parked. Parking modes need a hardwire kit, sold separately, that connects the camera permanently to the fuse box. Follow the kit's and the vehicle's instructions, as hardwiring involves the vehicle's electrical system.

WiFi, GPS and voice control

The camera has 5GHz WiFi for faster transfer of clips to a phone, built-in GPS that records route, speed and location, and voice commands such as "Take a photo".

Storage and loop recording

Loop recording works in 1, 2 or 3-minute segments, and the camera overwrites the oldest footage when the card is full. It accepts microSD cards up to 1TB, which VANTRUE says holds over 37 hours of triple 4K recording. A card is not included. VANTRUE recommends its own industrial-grade U3 microSD cards, which it says last more than three years, and warns against low-quality cards. A super capacitor is used instead of a battery, which is intended to cope with extreme temperatures.

Support

The listing mentions an 18-month warranty that can be extended, email support and regular firmware updates. The unit weighs about 0.5 lb and measures 5.6 x 7.3 x 3.8 inches in its packaging.

Who it suits

It suits drivers who want front, cabin and rear footage, ride-share and taxi drivers, and people who want parked-car recording with a hardwired install.

What to check before you buy
