The Auxbeam V-MAX is a pair of 7-inch cube LED light pods with built-in side shooters. They are auxiliary off-road lights, meant to be mounted on a bumper, roof rack or similar point, and they add wide side lighting as well as a forward beam. Here is a plain-language look at the specs.
Forward light and what 24,000 lumens means
Auxbeam rates the pods at 24,000 lumens and quotes 1 lux at 626 m. A lumen is a measure of total light output, while lux measures light falling on a surface. The "1 lux at 626 m" figure describes the distance at which the beam is still very dim, so the useful working distance is considerably shorter. Auxbeam describes the forward beam as a sharp, focused spot.
How the 270° side shooters work
Side shooters are extra LEDs that point sideways from the pod. Auxbeam says they produce a 270° wide combo beam that reduces blind spots. In general, side light helps on tight turns and in uneven terrain, where the edges of the trail matter as much as the road ahead. Pairing a forward spot with side light is a common way to balance distance and coverage.
White and amber modes
There are four modes, which Auxbeam calls 3+1:
- White main light.
- Amber daytime running light (DRL) and back light.
- White main light plus the amber DRL and back light.
- Amber main light, using the included amber covers.
Amber light is often used in fog, dust or snow because many drivers find it less glaring in those conditions, and Auxbeam also says the amber DRL alerts other drivers. Whether any lighting mode may be used on public roads depends on local rules.
Build and sealing
The housing is solid aluminum with cooling fins, and Auxbeam lists IP68 waterproofing. Fins add surface area to shed heat, which matters for LEDs because heat shortens their life. Auxbeam describes the pods as resistant to soil, seawater, rain and snow.
Wiring harness note
The listing says the wiring harness switch has been updated in recent batches and that two versions ship at random. Auxbeam says the difference is only in appearance and that function is unchanged. The package includes two pods with DT plugs, a wiring harness with a DT plug, two amber light covers and screws. Auxbeam gives a two-year service guarantee.
Who it suits
The pods suit owners of trucks, UTVs, SUVs and other off-road vehicles who want to add side and forward lighting for trail driving, and who like having amber as an option.
What to check before you buy
- Mounting: confirm that your vehicle has a place for two cube pods and a solid mount.
- Local rules: auxiliary lights are typically for off-road use. Check local law and the manual.
- Electrical load: confirm that your wiring, fuse and battery suit the lights' 204W power draw.
- Amber covers: amber main light uses the supplied covers, so keep them somewhere safe.
- Harness version: you may receive either harness switch design.
