The Auxbeam 7-inch round LED driving lights come as a pair of auxiliary lamps for trucks, SUVs, Jeeps, ATVs, tractors and boats. They add extra forward light for dark roads, trails and work sites, and the kit includes the wiring needed to connect them. Here is what the specs mean and what to think about before fitting them.
What the light output tells you
Auxbeam lists each lamp as using 24 LED chips of 5W each, for 120W per light and 240W for the pair. It quotes 12,000 lumens per lamp (24,000 for the set) and a 6000K white colour. Lumens measure total light produced, and a higher figure generally means more light overall, though how far and how wide it reaches depends on the lens and reflector. The 6000K colour temperature is a cool, bluish white, which Auxbeam says helps visibility in fog, rain and snow. These are described as spot lights, meaning a narrower, longer-reaching beam rather than a wide wash.
Housing, cooling and weather resistance
LEDs produce heat at the chip, and running them hot shortens their life. Auxbeam gives each lamp a thick aluminium alloy housing, 2.56 inches deep, with cooling fins to draw heat away. It says this design supports a service life of more than 50,000 hours, which is a brand figure rather than a guarantee.
The lamps are listed as IP68. In general, the "6" means the housing is sealed against dust, and the "8" means it is rated for continuous immersion under conditions set by the maker. The lenses are tempered glass, and the brackets are stainless steel, which Auxbeam says resists rust and corrosion.
Wiring and switch
The package includes a two-lead wiring harness with a fuse, relay and switch. Auxbeam calls it plug and play. A relay lets a small switch control a high-current load without running that current through the switch itself, and the fuse protects the circuit. As with any auxiliary lighting, the cable run, the power source and the fuse size all need to suit the load.
Mounting options
Two sets of stainless steel brackets are included, and the lamps can be tilted up or down by 30° to aim the beam. The brackets allow several installation methods, so the lamps can go on a bumper, roof rack, ladder frame or similar structure. Aiming matters: lights set too high can dazzle other drivers.
Where they fit
Auxbeam says they suit off-road vehicles, ATVs, UTVs, SUVs, construction and farm vehicles, trucks, buses, pickups and marine use. The 7-inch round shape is a common size for bumper and grille mounting, but check the space on your own vehicle.
What to check before you buy
- Mounting space: measure the area for two 7-inch round lamps, including the 2.56-inch depth and the room to tilt.
- Your electrical system: confirm the harness, fuse and relay suit your vehicle's voltage and spare capacity.
- Road legality: auxiliary lights are often restricted to off-road or private-land use, so check the rules where you drive.
- Aim and cover: plan how you will aim the beams, and whether you want covers for road travel.
- Weight: the set weighs about 11.5 lb, so make sure the mounting point can carry it.
- Installation: follow the manual and local codes, or have a qualified installer do the wiring.
