The Auxbeam 42-inch LED light bar is a long, double-row auxiliary light for Jeeps, trucks, 4x4s, ATVs, boats and vans. It is meant to add light well ahead of the vehicle and to the sides on dark trails or work sites. This page covers what the specs mean and what to check before fitting one.
The LEDs and the 5D optics
Auxbeam lists the bar as using 80 LED chips of 3W each, which adds up to the 240W in the name. Its "5D" optical design combines a fisheye lens with a reflector. In general, a reflector helps push light forward over a long distance, while a wider lens spreads light to the sides, and the idea is to get both distance and close-range coverage from one bar. Auxbeam says this lets the bar project light far down the road while still lighting the area close to the vehicle.
Spot and flood combo beam
The beam is a mix of two patterns. Auxbeam lists two 60-degree flood sections and one 30-degree spot section. A spot beam is narrow and long-reaching, which helps you see further ahead. A flood beam is wide and short, which helps with the edges of a trail or a work area. The combination aims to give a balance rather than a single trade-off, and Auxbeam says it helps you spot hazards on the road ahead.
Cooling and service life
A bar this long makes a lot of heat, and LEDs last longer when it is drawn away. The housing is aluminium alloy with multiple cooling fins. Auxbeam says the energy-saving design and the radiator extend the service life beyond 50,000 hours, a brand figure rather than a guarantee.
Weather resistance
Auxbeam lists the bar as IP68. In general, that means the housing is sealed against dust and rated for continuous immersion under the conditions the maker specifies. The lens is tempered glass, and the mounting brackets are stainless steel, which Auxbeam says resists rust and corrosion in harsh outdoor conditions.
Where it can be used
The brand lists Jeeps, 4x4s, trucks, cars, motorcycles, SUVs, ATVs, boats and family vans. It can serve as a driving light, a fog light or an emergency light. At 42 inches, it suits a roof rack, windshield-edge mount or large bumper better than a small motorcycle.
What to check before you buy
- Length: measure the roof, bumper or rack you plan to use, since 42 inches is a lot of space.
- Wiring: a light bar of this power draws real current, so check the wire gauge, fuse and relay in your plan. Confirm what wiring is included, because the listing does not describe it.
- Road legality: light bars are often limited to off-road use, so check the rules where you drive and whether covers are needed.
- Aim: set the beam so it doesn't dazzle other drivers.
- Wind noise and clearance: a long bar can add noise and affect how the roof sits under a garage entrance.
- Installation: follow the manual and local codes, or have a qualified installer do the wiring.
