The WORX WX100L.2 is a 20V cordless drill driver sold as a kit with 84 accessories, from drill and driver bits to a hammer and a tape measure. It is aimed at the everyday jobs around a home: assembling furniture, hanging pictures and shelves, and small repairs. Here is what its numbers mean and what comes in the box.

What 265 in-lbs of torque covers

Torque is the twisting force a drill can apply to a bit or screw. WORX lists a maximum of 265 inch-pounds (about 30 Nm), delivered through all-metal gearing. WORX names furniture assembly, picture hanging, drilling and driving into drywall, home repairs and DIY projects as the intended jobs.

Driving long, thick screws into dense hardwood or boring large holes typically calls for more torque than a compact drill like this offers. Drilling into brick or concrete usually needs a hammer drill, and the listing describes this as a drill driver.

Two speeds and the 20+1 clutch

A switch on top selects one of two speed ranges. Speed 1 runs from 0 to 400 RPM, for control when driving screws. Speed 2 runs from 0 to 1,600 RPM, for drilling holes more quickly. Within each range, the trigger sets the speed, and the drill reverses to back screws out.

The clutch has 20 settings plus a drill position. The clutch slips once the screw meets a set resistance, which helps prevent driving screws too deep or stripping their heads. WORX suggests the lower settings for small screws in soft materials and the higher ones for driving into hard and soft wood. On most drill drivers, the extra position is the drill setting, where the clutch doesn't slip.

Size, weight and handling

The drill is 6.8 inches (17 cm) long and weighs 2.54 lb (about 1.15 kg) with the battery. A short body fits between wall studs, inside cabinets and around shelving, and a lighter drill is easier to hold over your head when you mount something on a ceiling.

A rubber overmold grip helps with handling, and an LED light shines on the work surface in dark spots. The 3/8-inch keyless chuck tightens by hand, with no chuck key to lose. A 3/8-inch chuck takes bits with shanks up to 3/8 inch, which covers most household drill and driver bits.

What comes in the kit

The 84-piece accessory set combines drill and driver bits with hand tools, including a hammer, tape measure, screwdriver, adjustable wrench and utility knife. The kit also includes one 20V 2.0Ah battery, a charger, a belt clip and a carry bag to keep it all together.

The Power Share battery

The battery belongs to the WORX Power Share range, which WORX says covers more than 140 power tools, outdoor power equipment and lifestyle products. Some larger tools in the range run on two or more 20V batteries at once. A 2.0Ah battery keeps the drill light; larger batteries run longer between charges but add weight.

Who it suits

This kit suits people setting up a first home or apartment, renters, and anyone who mainly assembles, hangs and fixes things. It also suits households that already own Power Share tools and want a drill that shares their batteries.

What to check before you buy

  • Your jobs: for masonry, or large holes in hardwood, check whether you need a hammer drill or a higher-torque model.
  • Runtime: one 2.0Ah battery comes in the kit; consider whether a second battery would help on long projects.
  • Bits: confirm that any bits you already own have shanks of 3/8 inch or smaller.
  • Existing batteries: if you own other battery tools, check which platform they use.
  • Kit contents: look over the accessory list to see which pieces you will actually use.
