The WORX WX020 is a cordless paint sprayer powered by a 20V battery. It is meant for painting walls, fences, furniture and similar projects without a mains cord or air hose. The kit includes a 4Ah battery, a charger, three nozzles and cleaning accessories.
Brushless motor
WORX says the brushless motor gives more power, longer run time and better durability than a traditional paint gun. In general, brushless motors waste less energy as heat and friction because they have no carbon brushes to wear out, which is why they are common in newer cordless tools.
High volume, low pressure
The sprayer uses high volume, low pressure (HVLP) technology. A HVLP sprayer pushes a large volume of air at modest pressure, which typically breaks paint into a softer spray with less overspray and less bounce back from the surface. WORX gives a maximum pressure of 22 kPa and says this disperses paint evenly and minimizes overspray. Less overspray still doesn't remove the need for masking nearby surfaces.
Nozzles and speed control
Three nozzles come in the box: 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 mm. In general, a larger opening suits thicker material and bigger areas, while a smaller one gives finer control. A speed control knob regulates flow, and WORX says this helps get a better finish. The paint container holds 1,000 ml, and the listing gives a maximum viscosity of 110 DIN-sec. Thick paints may need thinning, so check the paint maker's guidance.
Battery and run time
The 20V MAX, 4Ah battery uses WORX's PowerShare system and is interchangeable with other 20V WORX tools. The listing quotes about 15 minutes of operating time on a 2Ah battery charge, so the 4Ah pack should run roughly longer, depending on the nozzle and speed. Larger rooms may need breaks to recharge.
Handling and cleaning
WORX calls the design compact and light, for a good grip during long sessions. The sprayer with its kit weighs about 5.5 lb (2.5 kg). Nozzles and the paint bucket detach for cleaning, and cleaning accessories are included. A sprayer needs thorough cleaning after every use, or dried paint can block it.
Who it suits
It suits DIY painters tackling fences, sheds, doors, cabinets, furniture and room walls, where a sprayer covers area faster than a brush. It is less suited to professional production work or very thick coatings.
What to check before you buy
- Paint type: check that the paint you plan to use suits this sprayer, and whether it needs thinning.
- Surface area: compare the 1,000 ml container and battery run time to your project.
- Prep: plan masking, drop sheets and ventilation, and wear the protective gear the manual lists.
- Battery: if you already own 20V WORX tools, the pack is interchangeable, as the brand states.
- Cleaning: make time for cleaning after each session.
- Warranty: the brand describes warranty terms that may depend on registration, so read them for your region.
