The Worx Nitro WX020L is a cordless paint sprayer that runs on Worx's 20V Power Share batteries. It is meant for people who want to cover fences, furniture, walls and similar surfaces without running a hose or a mains cable to the sprayer. The battery and charger are sold separately, so it arrives as the tool alone.

What the brushless motor changes

Worx puts this sprayer in its Nitro series, built for more power and run time than typical battery tools. The key part is the brushless motor. A brushless motor has no carbon brushes rubbing against the rotor, so it typically wastes less energy as friction and heat, runs a little longer on one charge and wears more slowly. Worx says that adds up to more power, performance, run time and longevity than a brushed design.

Four nozzles for different materials

The sprayer comes with four nozzles: 1.5 mm, 1.8 mm, 2.2 mm and 2.6 mm. In general, a smaller opening suits thinner liquids such as stains, while a larger opening lets thicker materials such as latex paint and primer pass through. Worx lists stains, primers and latex paints as materials the nozzle choice is meant to cover. The kit also includes a viscosity cup, which is used to judge whether a material is thin enough to spray, and the manual explains how to thin it if needed.

Spray patterns and speed control

You can choose a wide or a narrow spray pattern. A wide pattern covers large flat areas quickly; a narrow one gives tighter control on trim, chair legs and smaller pieces. Speed control lets you adjust how fast paint is dispensed, which Worx says gives an even flow and reduces over-spray. Over-spray is the fine mist that drifts past the target, so less of it means less masking and clean-up.

Capacity and cleaning

The paint container holds up to 34 fl oz (1000 ml). Smaller jobs may be done on one fill, while larger ones will need refills. For cleaning, Worx includes a garden hose adapter, and the paint cup and accessories detach. A wire brush and a declogging needle are in the box for blocked nozzles.

One battery across many tools

Worx says the same 20V Power Share battery works with more than 75 lifestyle, garden and power tools across its 20V, 40V and 80V ranges. If you already own Worx 20V batteries, you only need the tool. If you don't, you need to buy a compatible battery and charger separately.

The sprayer is about 33.3 inches long (roughly 85 cm), including the cup.

What to check before you buy

  • Battery and charger: neither is included, so confirm you have compatible 20V Power Share equipment.
  • Your paint: check the manual on which materials, and how much thinning, the sprayer accepts.
  • Surface and prep: spraying needs masking of nearby surfaces and good ventilation. Wear the protective gear the manual calls for.
  • Job size: a 34 fl oz cup is practical for furniture and small areas but means refilling on large walls.
  • Cleaning time: plan time for flushing and cleaning straight after use so paint does not dry in the nozzle.
  • What's in the box: four nozzles, viscosity cup, wire brush, declogging needle and garden hose adapter.
