The VEVOR WP9612FT is a pipe inspection camera with a 230 ft (70 m) cable, a 9-inch screen and a self-leveling camera head. It lets you look inside drains, sewer lines and ducts to find blockages, damage or the position of a fitting, without digging.

Self-leveling camera

On an ordinary inspection camera, the picture rotates as the cable twists in the pipe, and it can be hard to tell up from down. A self-leveling head keeps the image upright, so a crack at the top of the pipe stays at the top of the screen. VEVOR lists a 0.9-inch head with an IP68 waterproof sapphire lens, 12 LED lights with three brightness levels, 3x digital zoom and a 145° wide-angle view. IP68 generally means dust-tight and able to be immersed, and sapphire is a hard, scratch-resistant material.

Screen and recording

The 9-inch screen is a non-touch 1080P display with a sunshade for bright conditions. You can record video, take photos and play audio back through a computer or headphones. A 32GB SD card is supplied, and an input keyboard lets you type inspection notes. Saved footage is useful for showing a customer, planning a repair or comparing before and after.

Cable and distance counter

The cable is a 0.19 inch (5 mm) semi-rigid fiberglass snake, 230 ft long. Semi-rigid means stiff enough to push through a pipe yet flexible enough to follow bends. An on-screen distance counter shows how much cable is in the pipe, so you know how far along a problem lies.

The 512Hz transmitter

A 512Hz sonde transmitter in the camera head helps you find it from above ground, when used with a compatible locator. VEVOR states that a locator is not included, and recommends B0B61F1MQ1 as a compatible one. Check the locator's details before you rely on this feature.

Battery and frame

A 4500mAh rechargeable lithium battery gives 6-8 hours of continuous use, VEVOR says. The unit sits on a stainless steel frame. Dimensions are 15.4 x 15.0 x 12.4 inches and weight is about 27.6 lb, so it is a carry-to-site tool rather than a pocket one.

Pipe sizes

VEVOR gives compatible diameters of 0.99-5.90 inches (25-150 mm) for straight pipes and 1.97-5.90 inches (50-150 mm) for right-angle pipes. VEVOR calls the 230 ft length suitable for the great majority of medium to large pipeline jobs.

What to check before you buy

  • Pipe size and bends: compare your pipes with the listed ranges.
  • Run length: check that 230 ft covers your longest line.
  • Locator: it is sold separately, so plan for it if you need to pinpoint the camera.
  • Weight and space: at about 27.6 lb, think about transport and storage.
  • Battery: charge it before a job and note the stated 6-8 hours.
  • Cleaning: clean the cable and head after use, as the manual describes.
