The VEVOR 165 ft Sewer Camera is a pipe inspection kit made of a camera head on a long cable, a 9-inch monitor with recording, and a locator that tracks the camera from above ground. It's used to look inside drains, sewer lines and ducts to find blockages, damage or the route a pipe takes. This page explains what each part of the specification means.
The camera head
The camera is a 1-megapixel unit with a maximum viewing angle of 130°. VEVOR says its 303 stainless steel housing and sapphire lens protect it against knocks and corrosion, and it is listed as IP68, which is the highest common dust-and-water-ingress classification for a sealed device. Twelve adjustable LEDs light the pipe interior, and being adjustable lets the user reduce glare in a small or reflective pipe.
Pipe sizes
VEVOR lists compatible pipe diameters of 0.98 to 5.91 inches (25 to 150 mm) for straight runs, and 1.97 to 5.91 inches (50 to 150 mm) for right-angle bends. In general, tight bends are harder for any camera to get through, which is why the bend range starts larger.
Cable and reel
The semi-rigid cable is 165 ft (50 m) long. Semi-rigid means stiff enough to be pushed along a pipe rather than limp like a rope. The cable carries length markings, so you can estimate how far in the camera has travelled and roughly how deep a fault is. A cable reel keeps it organised for storage and transport.
Monitor and recording
The 9-inch LCD screen displays 720p video. A DVR function records video and takes photos, with a 16GB SD card included. Recordings can be copied to a computer later, which is useful for keeping a record of a job or sharing it with a client or another trade.
The 512Hz locator
Inside the camera probe is a compact sonar transmitter operating at 512Hz. A receiver, held above ground, picks up that signal and its screen gives location information. This lets you find the camera's position, mark where a fault lies and plan where to dig. Locating depends on soil, depth and nearby metal or electrical interference, so treat it as a guide and confirm with the manual's method.
Size and weight
The packed kit measures about 22.8 by 17.4 by 13.3 inches and weighs about 21.7 lb, so it's portable but not pocket-sized. VEVOR describes it as suitable for sewers, wastewater and storm water systems, drains and ducts, and as aimed at plumbers, contractors, inspectors, engineers and municipal workers.
Who it suits
It suits tradespeople who inspect pipes regularly, and property owners with a recurring drain problem who want to see the cause. It handles small-to-mid diameter household and light commercial lines. It isn't meant for large municipal pipes beyond the listed diameters.
What to check before you buy
- Pipe diameter: compare your pipes, including bends, against the listed ranges.
- Length: consider how far the run is from the access point.
- Access: you need a cleanout or opening to feed the cable in.
- Power and charging: check in the manual how the monitor and locator are powered.
- Cleaning: rinse and dry the cable and head after each use, as the manual describes.
