The VEVOR TL-A5102 is an air-driven hydraulic pump operated with a foot treadle. It supplies high-pressure oil to cylinders and presses, and VEVOR lists it for car-body frame machines and hydraulic presses. It is a pump, not a complete tool: you need a compressed air supply and a hydraulic cylinder or press to use it with.

How an air-hydraulic pump works

Compressed air drives a small piston that pumps oil at high pressure. This avoids the hand-pumping of a manual jack and the electric motor of a powered unit. VEVOR describes the foot treadle as the control: press down to build pressure and release quickly. Air-hydraulic pumps of this kind typically deliver oil slowly at high pressure, which is useful for precise, forceful work such as pressing, straightening and lifting, but slow for moving a cylinder through a long stroke.

The main specifications

VEVOR lists:

  • Maximum pressure: 10,000 PSI.
  • Air flow: 340 L/min.
  • Oil flow: 0.8 L/min with no load and 0.16 L/min under load.
  • Reservoir: 1.6 L (0.42 gal), factory filled with #13 hydraulic oil.
  • Ports: 1/4 inch NPT air inlet and 3/8 inch NPT high-pressure oil outlet.

The low oil flow under load is normal for this type. It means cylinders move gradually when loaded, so match the pump to the cylinder volume you plan to fill.

Hose and construction

The pump comes with a 6.56 ft (2 m) rubber hose reinforced with three layers of steel wire, which VEVOR says handles pressures up to 125 MPa. The longer hose lets you stand clear of the work. The body is aluminium, which VEVOR describes as aerospace grade, and an internal relief valve protects the hydraulic components against overpressure. Check that any cylinder, gauge and fittings you add are rated for the same pressure as the pump.

Factory-filled oil

Because the reservoir arrives filled, you can connect air and a cylinder and start work without buying oil first. As with any hydraulic system, the oil level should be checked in line with the manual, and the oil should be kept clean.

Size and weight

The pump measures 11.8 x 8.3 x 8.7 inches (about 30 x 21 x 22 cm) and weighs 18.7 lb (about 8.5 kg). It stands on the floor beside the work. VEVOR lists applications including lifting, pressing, bending, straightening, cutting, assembling and disassembling.

Who it suits

It suits workshops with an air compressor that run hydraulic presses, bearing pullers, body repair frames or similar tools, and need hands-free control. It is less suited to places without compressed air or to jobs needing fast cylinder travel.

What to check before you buy

  • Compressor: make sure yours can supply the air flow and pressure the manual asks for.
  • Fittings: confirm the 3/8 inch NPT outlet matches your cylinder or hose connection.
  • Pressure limits: every part in the circuit should be rated for the pressure in use.
  • Oil: check which hydraulic oil the manual specifies for topping up.
  • Safety: high-pressure hydraulics can be dangerous. Follow the manual, wear eye protection and release pressure before disconnecting anything.
  • Speed: the oil flow rates are low, so consider cylinder size.

The short version

  • An air-actuated treadle hydraulic pump, model TL-A5102, rated up to 10,000 PSI.
  • 1.6 L reservoir factory filled with #13 hydraulic oil.
  • 1/4 inch NPT air inlet and 3/8 inch NPT oil outlet, with a 2 m steel-reinforced hose.
  • Internal relief valve and an aluminium body; about 18.7 lb (8.5 kg).
  • Needs compressed air and a compatible cylinder or press.
