The VEVOR 11 GPM hydraulic pump is a two-stage gear pump designed to be bolted to a small engine and used to power a log splitter. It is a replacement or upgrade part rather than a finished machine. VEVOR also lists it for presses, machine tools and snowplow hydraulic systems.

What a two-stage pump does

A two-stage pump combines a high-flow section and a high-pressure section. At low load it delivers a large volume of oil, so the splitting ram moves quickly. When the wedge meets resistance and pressure climbs, the pump switches to the lower-flow, high-pressure stage to supply force. In practice, this shortens cycle times without needing a much bigger engine. VEVOR rates the pump at a maximum of 11 GPM (gallons per minute) and 3,000 PSI, each with a tolerance of ±10%, and a maximum speed of 3,600 RPM.

Reading the numbers

  • Flow (11 GPM): sets how fast the cylinder moves.
  • Pressure (3,000 PSI): with the cylinder's bore area, sets the splitting force.
  • Speed (3,600 RPM): the highest shaft speed. VEVOR lists a 1,440 RPM rated speed and a 3,600 RPM idle for the engine it is matched to.

Flow and pressure are maximums, and the real output varies with engine speed, oil temperature and load. Do not exceed the rated pressure of the rest of the system, including the hoses, valve and cylinder.

Engine match and ports

VEVOR gives the applicable engine as 5.5 to 7.5 HP. The pump has a 1 inch inlet and a 1/2 inch NPT outlet. The output shaft is 1/2 inch in diameter and 1.38 inches long, and a flat key is included. VEVOR says it is compatible with several OEM log splitters, naming Speeco, Huskee and Champion. Matching shaft size, mounting and the coupler to your engine is the main compatibility step, so compare dimensions rather than relying on brand names alone.

Construction and noise

The housing is aluminium alloy, which VEVOR says is durable and corrosion resistant, and it keeps weight down. The pump measures 5.1 x 3.4 x 6.5 inches (130 x 85 x 166 mm). The net weight is listed as 6.2 lb (2.8 kg), although the shipping weight is 7.3 lb. Noise is listed as below 75 dB, though a running engine will be louder than the pump.

In the box

The package has the pump, a wrench, a flat key, Teflon tape and a user manual. Use thread sealant suitably for hydraulic fittings, and check whether the manual recommends tape or a different sealant.

Who it suits

It suits owners repairing or upgrading an engine-driven log splitter, and people building a small hydraulic press or snowplow lift where a 5.5 to 7.5 HP engine drives the pump. It is less suited to systems that need a different shaft, a larger flow, or electric-motor drive.

What to check before you buy

  • Engine: confirm the horsepower, shaft type and mounting pattern.
  • Ports: make sure your hoses and fittings suit a 1 inch inlet and 1/2 inch NPT outlet.
  • System pressure: check that the cylinder, valve and hoses are rated for 3,000 PSI or more.
  • Oil: use the hydraulic oil type the manual and your splitter specify, and keep the reservoir clean.
  • Rotation: check the required direction of rotation before running.
  • Safety: hydraulic pressure can be dangerous, so follow the manual and relieve pressure before servicing.

The short version

  • A two-stage aluminium hydraulic gear pump rated at 11 GPM, 3,000 PSI and 3,600 RPM maximum.
  • Intended for 5.5 to 7.5 HP engines on log splitters, presses and snowplow systems.
  • 1 inch inlet, 1/2 inch NPT outlet, 1/2 inch shaft with a flat key.
  • Includes a wrench, Teflon tape and manual; about 6.2 lb (2.8 kg) net.
  • Check shaft, mounting and system pressure limits before fitting.
