This VEVOR air hydraulic pump is a foot-actuated treadle pump that uses compressed air to drive hydraulic oil. It is rated for pressures up to 10,000 PSI and is meant to power single-acting rams, presses and hydraulic pullers, including auto body frame machines and pulling posts.

How an air hydraulic pump works

A hydraulic ram moves because oil is pushed into it under pressure. Instead of a hand lever, an air-powered pump uses compressed air from a compressor to do the pumping. You press the foot treadle to build pressure and release it to let the pressure fall, which VEVOR says is labour-saving compared with working a hand pump. It leaves both hands free to position the tool or the work.

Pressure, tank and ports

  • Pressure: up to 10,000 PSI, though the limit is set by the rams and tools you connect.
  • Reservoir: a 98 cubic inch oil tank (about 1/2 gallon).
  • Outlet: 3/8 inch NPT oil outlet.
  • Inlet: 1/4 inch NPT air inlet.

NPT is a tapered pipe thread standard used in North America. Make sure your fittings and compressor connections use the same thread, and seal them with tape, as the PTFE tape in the package suggests.

Hose and what's included

The pump has a 6.6 ft (2 m) oil pipe, so you can stand a little back from the ram. VEVOR also lists a hydraulic coupler, an air inlet adapter and PTFE tape. The pump comes with hydraulic oil, which the brand says means it is ready to use straight out of the box.

Build and stability

The pump core is aviation-grade aluminum, inside a metal shell, according to VEVOR. An internal relief valve is meant to protect hydraulic components from excess pressure. Two fixing screw holes in the base allow you to secure it to the floor or a bench, which the brand says reduces sliding and vibration. The unit is 10.3 x 5.4 x 7.3 inches (about 26 x 14 x 19 cm) and weighs 8.9 lb (about 4 kg).

Who it suits

It suits auto body workshops and garages that use frame machines, pulling posts, presses or hydraulic pullers, and have a compressed air supply.

What to check before you buy

  • Single-acting only: confirm that your ram or tool is single-acting, as the brand states.
  • Pressure limits: check that every hose, coupler and ram is rated for the pressure you will use.
  • Air supply: you need a compressor and fittings that match the inlet and your manual's air-pressure guidance.
  • Threads: compare the 3/8 inch and 1/4 inch NPT ports with your equipment.
  • Mounting: plan how to bolt it down.
  • Upkeep: check oil level and condition, and follow the manual and local workplace rules for high-pressure systems.

The short version

  • A foot-actuated air hydraulic pump rated to 10,000 PSI.
  • 98 cubic inch reservoir, 3/8 inch NPT outlet and 1/4 inch NPT inlet.
  • 6.6 ft oil hose, coupler, adapter and PTFE tape included, plus hydraulic oil.
  • Aluminum pump core, metal shell and an internal relief valve.
  • For single-acting rams, presses and pullers; 8.9 lb.
